I've had my Mach E since May and have had a handful of issues with it. Some have been resolved(so it seems) and some i'm waiting for software updates, I got my vehicle back from my local dealership after they had it for two weeks. They replaced the PCM and the wire harness and updated the software, all this to fix an issue with my unbridled extend tripping a service alert and not working correctly. I also had an issue with speed warning turning on and unable to turn off which still isn't resolved. Despite these few issues i have been generally happy with my vehicle and when stopped by people or asked I'm always quick to talk about how great the vehicle is. But my opinion is slowly changing. After my update my range on my vehicle has dropped significantly. Before the udpate i was getting around 236 miles on a full charge, it slowly got worse. I just got home from a road trip down from northern california down to souther california(around 390 miles) and my range was 190 miles and i was getting 1.7-1.9 mi/kwh and that was using smart cruise control set to 85 mph and with little to no traffic for most the trip until getting to LA and it going to 3.0 mi/kwh in bumper to bumper traffic. I'm also now experiencing issues with my home charger showing an amber light on the charger as well.
Is that range normal? Or am i having something going on with my car? I've talked with ford about the home charger issue and they want me to go into the dealership, the dealership is so far behind that they're saying it's 7-10 days to even diagnose the vehicle and even longer possibly to get it fixed. And Ford is saying that the charger is on nationwide backorder. At this point i'm seriously contemplating looking into selling this car.

Your dropping range is likely due to cold weather...

85 mph? Nah, try 60 Mph. I still do 80 MPH every day though. But clearly can feel the range going down faster. temperature change matters too. Regarding the charger, the one came free with the car? I am surprised people use that as a permanent charger. I always see that thing as a keep in car in case you need to charge your car in friend's house kind of thing.

Coming back from WA to the SF Bay Area in May, I got low 2s/KWh in snow at no faster than 35MPH. 1.7 in cool weather at 85 sounds about right in a GT. ??

The Ford Mobile Charger (FMC) is known to have issues. While the FMC comes with a wall bracket, the thing is not intended to be used every day, and it has thermal issues (which compound themselves as the FMC damages itself by getting warm). I have never unwrapped my FMC or plugged it into a wall since I have a much more robust L2 EVSE in my garage. Check with your local utility to see if they offer a rebate on a L2 EVSE and buy something more robust than the FMC. ?‍♂?

I got low-mid 2 miles/kWh at 70mph in 30F, wind and flurries. 1.7 at 85mph sounds normal to me.

Thank you for all the responses, it makes me feel better with the responses. I really love driving the vehicle but the few bugs have been disconcerting and i know being an early adopter has its drawbacks and growing pains. My dealership didn't leave the most confidence in me with the module and wire harness repair.

I have been charging every night with the charger which came with the car since day one without any problem, except had yellow light once, but unpluging and replugging fixed it.

regarding kwh mealige, the faster you go the less, due to the air drag being square of speed. Stop and go on the other hand not only is low speed but also it uses no kwh on motion when you stop, except on climate control.

FWIW, I have had zero issues with my ‘21 GT-PE other than ones I have created myself (not counting a FordPass server issue, but that wasn’t a problem with the car) due to modifying the car. Well, unless you count HVBJB anxiety. ??

Most people are so conditioned from ICE vehicles that highway speeds are more efficient than city speeds that they don't realize that it's the exact opposite in an EV.

i had no issues until recently with the ford provided charger, tried reseating the plug, resetting the breaker and still getting the amber light. so checked with my local Utility and they offer a $500 rebate so ordered a charger off amazon and then will be able to see how that one works. And work on replacing the ford one when it's convenient for me.

Same as all above. I've never installed a Lvl2 charger at home-- been using the OEM charger since Day 1 (Oct 2021). I don't drive much and drip charge is sufficient for me. When the amber light first appeared, I got it diagnosed by an electrician. The standard 120v socket wasn't properly grounded. Once that was fixed, light has been blue ever since. And yes-- 85mph in "mild" CA weather would have exactly that effect on Range. I loved me MME GT (non PE) until the HVBJB broke & annoying software glitches cropped up. Now, I still "like it a lot", just no longer "love it." As an early adopter & new tech, that is not unexpected.

Range is based on the opposite if a gas vehicle. We have 35 to 50 mph roads in Our area so we avg summer 285 to 298 in our GTPE. Highway at 65mph a.c. on 68 in 80 deg weather and run 3 kWh vs in town 3.5 to 4.1 Now winter range is 238 avg so far. 85mph is probably under 2 kWh so it's probably normal.

As Steve noted, the Ford portable EVSE is known to be a bad design. Mine also gets the yellow LED when it is warm outside. If the ambient temperature is cool/cold, it should work fine. But if it gets 80+ F where you are charging, the EVSE will likely overheat and fail to charge at the full rate. In one word: it sucks. (OK, that is two words.) So your decision to get a new one is the right decision. Throw the Ford EVSE in the frunk for emergency use. Or throw it away. ?

As for the range complaint? Speed and ambient temperature make a big difference. Driving 85 mph with no traffic, as you described, is very inefficient. But using E-Heat can be as bad, even worse. If you want to improve efficiency significantly, turn off E-Heat. And drive slower.

This graph shows the faster you drive, the more energy is required. And it is not linear, which means the difference between 60 and 70 is not as great as the difference between 70 and 80. Your efficiency will be much better at 70 than 85. Much.

And don't forget to turn off E-Heat You don't need it in CA anyway.
