Note: I’m not proposing that they “Apple-fy “ the UI, and I know Apple’s UI has flaws, but at least it’s pretty consistent and has a set of guidelines.
Like CarPlay’s rounded corners. Grrrr…

This sounds like a cool idea conceptually, but gosh the specific rare conditions where I'd be comfortable letting the car make that decision wouldn't be worth enabling the feature to me.

Or maybe I just need to see it in action to gain some confidence.

At any rate, BC can't even consistently stay enabled going straight on i70 - it's a big leap for me to trust it to do automated lane changes.
I expect BC to be very conservative with automated lane changes. For instance, when moving from Lane1 to Lane2, would it properly detect a car merging from Lane3 to Lane2 at the same time, or a car behind you also trying to move to Lane2? This happens so often in busy traffic or slowdowns on freeways. Not much help if it makes meaningful lane changes only on the open road.

Being new so far, I'm not sure what version of anything I have is. I"d have to look. But what I would like is for the car to recognize a stop sign and not follow the car in front of me automatically once I reach the sign. Wishful thinking, but using BC/adaptive CC/whatever it is, when I'm 15 cars back at a stop sign intersection is wonderful. I just have to be mindful when I reach the end. :)

If you have a 2023, you have BlueCruise 1.2.

That would be a great addition! I often use BC on city streets (not quite hands-free though), and a BC feature that makes the car stop when it reaches a stop sign or stop light with no other car at the intersection ahead, would be awesome to have. A chime to warn you of the impending stop would be useful, in order to allow override by the driver, if necessary. Stop light is harder, but Tesla is able to recognize traffic lights and intersections with a camera.

Would definitely pay extra ($5/mo?) for that.

2023 models produced after(?) June 1st should have 1.3 installed.
Is it a software update that takes you from 1.2 to 1.3 or is that not possible as 1.3 might need additional hardware installed?

Interesting interview with Jim Farley.
In this clip, he explains he tested BlueCruise 1.3 and 1.4

If Ford wants me to pay for bluecruise it’s not going to happen. I will not pay any more for blue cruise when it cannot center its self in the lane. Giving it free control, it will hug the right line and drive over the reflective bumps.

1.2 to 1.3 is a software update. 1.4 likely will be software as well.

What is this “lane 3” you speak of? Here in Pennsyltucky, we’ve heard rumors of roads with more than 2 lanes of traffic in each direction, but we’ve always thought they were myths 😀😀😀 (Yes people, I’m aware that sections of the turnpike and I-95 have 3 lanes, but those are outliers 😀)

I believe the assumption is that the attentive driver will observe that the car is about to perform a potentially hazardous maneuver, and override it.

Haha. As Bill Green from Coeur d'Alene would say, "it's like we're living in California"

I'm a tech geek and I still don't take this stuff for granted. The fact the car can drive itself at all is amazing. The feature has recently become more useful to me because I finally got prescription sunglasses (only took 50+ years). However, I'm still not in the habit of putting them on before I start driving. So nice to just push a button on the steering wheel and active BC just long enough for me to safely take my sunglasses out of their case and swap them with my regular eyeglasses.

I generally enjoy BC when I use/need it. But it could use some polish so I'm very much looking forward to the refinements coming with 1.3.

The only added feature I want:

Have BC work EVERYWHERE!!

Why do we have this restriction of only “mapped” BC roads?

It should have the capability of working anywhere the roads are marked. Pretty much anywhere lane keep assist works.

Why? Safety.

BC is driver ASSISTANCE not self driving. You are still responsible for driving the vehicle.

Having your hands off of the steering wheel in a more unpredictable area causes higher reaction times when there are situations that require manual input.

A divided highway by contrast is a much more controlled environment (no traffic lights, no pedestrians, no cross traffic, it's all one way traffic in typically wider lanes than surface streets).
