I wonder if the problem isn't actually the HVBJB, since it is a standard range select, so shouldn't be failing to begin with, much less 3 times in 4 months of ownership. There may be something wrong that is predisposing the HVBJB to fail. Regardless, this seems like a reasonable case to push Ford to do a buy back. The lemon law process in Maine is slow, and I assume comparably slow in California. I am sorry the one you got appears to be a dud.
I talked to a Ford rep and he is going to start the buyback process. He was able to review my case from the last time this happened. The service center had all sorts of wonky dates. They only put one HVBJB changeout on the original work order/receipt they gave me so I might have to go down there and make them annotate that it was changed twice.

When talking to him I told that I don't trust a third HVBJB replacement in four months will matter and just like you said, there might be a reason this particular vehicle is not accepting the HVBJB. It's like a patient rejecting a donated organ.

I might go with the buy back instead of the lemon law because Ford might be willing to give in a little quicker if it means I stay with them and they move another Mach-E off their lot.

I personally think a different MME may be worth a chance. I got my CR1 4 months ago as well, and at 12,000+ miles, no significant issues at all. Good luck!

Quick rundown: Bought 2023 Mach-E Select on 30-Jul-2023; ten days later I get all the vehicle service/pull over safely lights, and after a month of waiting for an appointment finally get my car in to find out it is the dreaded faulty high voltage battery junction box (HVBJB).

Two weeks of driving a car that could only be charged at home waiting for the new HVBJB to come in was annoying. HVBJB came in, took over a week to replace. Then they called me and said everything is fine and I can pick the car up later that day.

I go to pick it up and get told the lights came back on and the evaluation showed the new HVBJB was bad. So back to square one. Five days later I get my car back almost two months after the initial problem started.

Yesterday, 8,000 miles on the odometer, lights came back on for all the same errors. All the nearby dealerships told me they're booked solid for several weeks. Because this is a major safety issue and the third HVBJB malfunction in four months at 8,000 miles, I want to initiate a lemon law claim out here in California.

Anyone know how long they have been taking? I just want my money back for this horrible car so I can get a different EV, possibly a Tesla.

sounds like a horrible dealership that doesn't know what they are doing. ask @Ford Motor Company to find you the nearest dealership that has replaced several of the HVBJBs, order the part vis the COPIS process, and you should be good to go in less than a week.

I second recommendation to go with Buy Back / exchange. Something seems odd, or that you got a lemon. If Ford will swap it for a new one I would call that a win and good customer service.

I’d call Ford and customer relations and make them fine you an appointment ASAP

Not sure if they were yanking my chain, but I made an online appointment with a nearby dealership (Salinas, CA) for Monday. I was called less than hour later and told EV appointments are booked solid and the soonest they could see me is December 18th. Then I was told because this particular issue was worked on by another Ford dealer's service department (Monterey, CA) I would have to go there and the service center in Salinas cannot help me.

I have already been contacted by the Ford rep who helped me with this same problem and this latest issue will be rolled up with my last case number. He left a message for me stating that he will be initiating the buy back process. I am calmer now and will give Ford one more chance. Other than this HVBJB issue, I am more than satisfied with the performance of this vehicle.

After 3 HVBJB replacements - I would also pursue a buyback. If Ford says no... push for lemon law in your state.

As for another EV... there are many options these days. Ioniq 5, BMW i4, Lyriq, GV60, etc. I would not just default to a Tesla.
Default to the tesla since our 2023 y AWD long range is excellent. Very close to the comfort as our GTPE but y only cost $44500 includes tax credit. Custom paint and 20 rims.

You're probably right. HVBJB failure in sr is rare but he didn't say it wasn't a awd.

I had a battery-related failure on my 7 month old Mach-E in Oct. 2021. By Dec. I gave up on their fixing it and initiated the Buy Back program. Ford was absolutely stellar in the process and refunded all my money, which they got back with more when a was able to get a 2022 in April 2022. The dealer even provided me a loaner for several months. The 2022 has worked flawlessly. Thank you Ford.

My last BMW was a lemon and the dealer bought it back under very generous terms. The whole process took about 2 weeks at most. but that was several years ago. I'm also in CA. IIRC, the same thing has to fail 3 times within a certain amount of time.

Good luck.

brand reputation is very important and given ford is struggling to sell mach e's they should make you whole by buying back your vehicle and giving you free charging credits/accessories for all the inconvenience.

After what you’ve been through I’d take fordā€˜s money and run to another brand. I have Tesla and non-Tesla EVs. While I wouldn’t rate the Tesla the best car, I still feel that everyone else is playing a bit of catch up on EV tech. They have better efficiency than most and we all know the charging is superior. However, I’d not be afraid of the other brands as most are converging on the Tesla charging tech. I have three non-Tesla EVs and two Teslas as well.

However, back to the original point, the HVBJB as been a problem since inception and it appears they haven’t worked it out. This is the reason I sold my GTPE which was a great car. I just felt I couldn’t road trip, which I do often. I don’t know how after what you’ve experienced you’ll ever feel completely comfortable. The choice is your’s though.
