Lighted Pony Project (back it!)

I have shipped several 4K, but I'm not shipping anymore of that 2-piece PCB. I'm waiting for the new integrated 4K PCB.

Green circle is 6K. It looks like you have my latest PCB. It seems to match the headlights pretty well even though it is 6K. All the manufacturers quote a range. That range is actually 6000K-7500K. It's possible earlier LEDs were closer to 7500 and these are closer to 6000. Color is really subjective though. Especially through different camera lenses and phone software.

I botched the first survey, and it didn't ask for names. A lot of people responded, but they did not respond to my follow-up with a request to fill in names. If they did, I captured it and tried to account for it.

A little daunted by the idea of going thru the firewall, but it'll be a learning experience.

Yeah, that one was still botched. I was rushing to get back to making Ponies. Because you aren't in my organization, it does not automatically record a name, because it doesn't know ?. That was my bad. I updated it and sent another Kickstarter update explaining and asking people to fill it out a second time to add their names. I checked and I don't have yours.
I'm sure what you have is 6K. That said, it might be good to see more of the integrated 6K installs. That last picture looked like a dead match and it was 6K.

When the last Kickstarters ship (4K), I am considering offering a discount for original supporters on the latest versions. I would recommend waiting for the RGB+headlight only. I just need to figure out how to manage it.

I really hope you do this and is all I really ask for. I backed a kickstarter so I am happy to have received SOMETHING. However, I have to be brutally honest, what I received is not what I wanted. It's not the color I asked for, it's like a light bright board, each LED is painfully obvious even at a distance, and the uniformity is quite poor with no light at all in my tail (and quite blue).

Funny thing is, if you sent everyone the same thing I would probably be happier but since I know others got their choice and I didn't and others got better ones and I didnt, kind of rubs one the wrong way.

I still appreciate all you did and offering some of us who didnt get what we want a nice discount (please dont insult us with 10%) would go a long way to making everything a lot better.

What does what I am entitled to have to do with what makes things right? I dont see you as one of the people who got the inferior version in this thread or maybe you would feel differently.

If I was running this kickstarter I would offer the people who got the inferior version a replacement at cost. You cant ship half the people (especially your first backers) something that doesnt live up to what the second half get and not expect people to be pissed off.

It's his project, he can do what he wants, but I am on record of how I feel it could be made right and I am confident even if they don't say it, many others who got the inferior version feel the same way.

Correct. I chose not to donate money to the development project, and instead decided to wait for it to be finished so I could purchase an actual product. You chose differently.

Here's a comparison. You research a car and it's features and you buy it and get exactly what was outlined. The manufacturer makes improvements and changes and starts showcasing them to the media. People continue to buy the current model and get the features it is described as having. The new model comes out with new features. You are not entitled to the new features because you didn't buy them even though you knew about them.

The product you received is not inferior, it is exactly what you signed up to buy.

Except that is exactly what happened. go back and watch the original kick starter video, it shows a perfectly lit pony (including the tail) and you cant see a single LED. THAT outlined product was delivered to half the backers.

Does this look like a light bright?

You backed a work in progress. It’s not to your liking, we get that. Take the lighted pony off your car and replace it with the OEM pony if you haven’t already done so. Come back in a few months when the bugs and inherent issues with this mod are worked out to your satisfaction.

I just saw John's message through Kickstarter that he is mailing out voltage regulators because some MMEs can have a higher voltage at the wire that powers the pony, like 14v. Does anyone know what the side effect is if the voltage is too high? Does it fry the pony? I installed mine last weekend and it looked incredible. But after 3 days it stopped coming on. I won't have time to dismantle the frunk again to diagnose until this weekend but I wondered if anyone else experienced this.

Congratulations and by the way I am totally jealous of your silver color. I like my rapid red, but if silver was an option for me I would have taken it. Gorgeous.

It was in my Kickstarter inbox.

So I have been testing the voltage regulator diode solution this week and also making modifications to the circuits to integrate this in the future. I'll start mailing these parts to you all tomorrow and through the weekend. It's pretty simple.
