One of the common issues I faced with CarPlay was the inability to connect wirelessly to SYNC. I always had to plug the Apple USB connector to get CarPlay to work.
Finally, I figured it out:
1. Connect your iPhone to SYNC via Bluetooth.
2. Go to the wireless network drop down screen on SYNC and connect your iPhone WiFi to PROJxxxx where xxxx will be some characters. The connection password will be shown on the same SYNC screen. Use this password.
3. Ensure your iPhone is NOT connected to the SYNC WiFi hotspot in your MME which is something else altogether. If it is, you won’t be able to connect to CarPlay wirelessly. If are already connected to the in-car WiFi hotspot, you must disconnect from it and connect to PROJxxxx.
4. With your iPhone connected to your MME via Bluetooth and wirelessly via the PROJxxxx network ONLY, you’ll be able to enjoy wireless CarPlay. No more USB connection required!
Hope this solution helps all those who are having wireless CarPlay issues.
