I am trying to decide between a Mach-e that needs the recall fix, priced at $36,900 and is $4k more than a Calf Rt 1 manufactured 2 months later in June of 2022, has about 8K more miles on it, priced at $32,900. The latter is less convenient to get to, a little over 1.5hrs away.

Does the recall completely fix the issue? Is the Calf Rt 1 the better of the two cars generally speaking? Just would love to hear opinions on both, someone who has done the recall and someone who owns the Calf rt 1 model yr 2022.

I did test drive the first one and it is very nice all the way around.

The recall is to put in an upgraded part. That part would not be in a June 2022 model, which if it's an ER would also be on the recall list. If not, will the part fail? Possibly. 2023s produced in the 2nd half, which should have the newest part, have had failures.

RWD models and SR models are less likely to fail.

Just because the recall is done doesn't mean the part will never fail again. Warranty is for 8 years / 100,000 miles on that component.

The recall is only for vehicles manufactured before May 24 2022. Asking for those who have had the repair does it do the job? Sounds like you are saying no even 2023 has issues with the new part?

CR1 is similar to a Select. My rear ends (back + a) were sweating on a Select seat. I would go for a GT if I am looking to buy one. With 8k less miles, GT sounds better for me.

The GT has the gray interior trim with copper piping( kind of like a suede and leather combo) with like a denim dash the CR 1 has black leather all other features seem the same.

I have a CA-R1 rear drive built just a couple weeks before the new part was bing installed, so I'm waiting for the recall. Not a lick of trouble from the car with 42 K miles. Having test driven a GT and a Select I actually preferred the softer ride from the 18" wheels and wanted lots of range so I ordered a rear-drive ER version of the car.

Since you've test driven the GT, I'd recommend test driving a R1 before you decide. Bet you can find a dealer with one on hand to test drive. I love the ride and find the acceleration more than adequate for my needs, but you may feel otherwise.

That said, with AWD the R1 you're considering would be a little peppier than my car. The fact that the R1 you're looking at won't need the recall would be a plus in terms of convenience, and a GT might be more likely to have its HVBJB spit up a hairball than my car which is still on its first HVBJB.

Sorry so long winded. I think you'll enjoy either of these cars.

Route 1 has been dropped by Ford, obstensibly due to low demand. Come resale time the GT will do far better and it’s a lot faster and better looking. GL.

The original HVBJB part for a GT was LK9Z-10C666-A. It was replaced by LK9Z-10C666-B at the end of May, 2022. LK9Z-10C666-C replaced that in November of 2023. Both of the first two versions had an unacceptable rate of failure. The third version has had some failures, but at a much lower rate than the first two. ??

That said, the battery components have an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on them. You can fail the HVBJB for a few more years and it will be covered. I’m planning on blowing up my replacement -BRM part this summer so that I can get a -C part and hopefully not have to fail one again. ??

I’ll be honest, after driving around a rwd select while our gt was in the shop, I fell in love with it. Had a blast sliding the rear end around here and there. That said, if you live in any kind of real wether. The awd rt1 is probably the way to go if you can get one.

We love our CR-1 AWD with the ER battery. The recall is still live on ours, but I probably won't take it in until the part actually dies. It's not worth the hassle of going to the dealer. The nearest Ford dealer with any experience with EVs is 1.5 hours away.

I've never driven the GT, so can't speak to which is better.

I own both. I drive CR1 for every day commute and majority of my travel trips. GT is mostly my wife car and my weekend fun car.
GT is better model if you do not paranoid on range :) yes, it’s about 10% difference in real life.

Go for the GT hands down (full disclosure: I'm biased, own a GT). When you hit the accelerator pedal that's when you'll experience the main difference. Also the looks.
