Your Enphase Envoy communicates to the cloud via wifi. But the microinverters actually report to the Envoy via signals embedded in the electrical circuit itself. Much like the old “Magic Jack“ that let people use their home electrical outlets as internet ports if they plugged the decoders in on different outlets. That’s why you have to have your envoy plugged in as close to the breaker box as possible. (At least this is how it was explained to me.)
