It hurts your acceleration, but if you don’t need the range, getting the SR battery drops a decent amount of weight. Ditto with getting RWD instead of AWD. Makes your wallet heavier, though that is probably the good type of weight :p

Part of my thought process at least when choosing which variant to order - I live in a hilly area with lots of twisting roads, figured I would make better use of the lower weight as opposed to faster acceleration. I ended up with an SR AWD Premium (didn’t want to give up too much acceleration).

That was all of three months ago in response to the Munro and Associates teardown of a Mach E.

I am betting that they will take a model year (2023) for the engineering/costing/corporate approvals to cut in, and the Cost Reduction in Manufacturing changes will come before the more costly (parking prawl) changes.
In the video with Sandy Munro Live, Chief Engineer Donna Dickson said (paraphrasing) that going forward on future BEV's (not clear if that means future MME model years or new vehicle designs) they would eliminate the (heavy and complex) parking pawl and they will rely on "Blade Brake Electronics" (to do what the traditional parking pawl is currently designed to do).

No cut-in dates have been publicized for any of those changes. Speculation: It is highly unlikely for any of those changes to be present in the first several runs of 2022 models. Nobody outside of Ford knows anything with regard to any of those changes. ?‍♂?

It was just wishful thinking on my part that they would make it in to early 2022 builds.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm just excited to see if they really make the car light up when it goes supersonic like in the game announcement a day ago. And, hopefully we can get those aftermarket tires and wheels they showed! ?

Yeah, I don't think those few thinks will make much difference in weight.
Agreed, but if they remove the front coolant reservoir (combine with the rear one) if may give a little more usable frunk space. Not sure where the coolant pumps are, but that could help free up some volume too.

More room for another holiday pumpkin pie!

Having suffered a failure of the parking pawl which required a complete motor replacement, good riddance! It's a huge issue - when it fails or engages when it shouldn't, you can't move the car at all. So I doubt it has anything to do with weight, but still a good idea if there are other ways to keep the car in park.

A weight reduction of this tiny scale will do nothing. This is not a little Lotus track car. It is a family car that weighs a lot because of the battery. If you want a more significant weight change, go for the standard range and lose a few hundred pounds. If they wanted to make a difference, they would make the wheels lighter. Once EVs have solid state batteries, they will be lighter and still have a longer range. That will be the game changer. Best way to save money and weight is to get the Select with standard range battery.
