I looked over Ford’s business and it makes sense why they are targeting a mid size EV truck first. This template will be usable for popular crossovers as well

I just hope they release a great product crossover before too long 😉

Once I’m rich I’ll probably get some kind of Bronco or off roader as well

Under the current state of the country a most important thing for Ford and GM is to survive.
My worry is if you’re not careful, you’ll optimize too hard. You’ll end up surviving until things change. And then you’ll be stuck unable to adapt in time.

Let’s say things change and small cars get popular. Especially small EV‘s, but just smaller things.

How many YEARS would it take for Ford to have vehicles ready for the US? I know they sell smaller vehicles overseas. But it will still take time because they won’t have anything that’s ready.

You think the current policies in the US are not a critical danger to the US auto industry?

That I notices also. I am concerned that they will further optimize cost and leave features out of the car. Maybe next year they will offer a Mach e "Dune" -special version / edition with no doors, but have the doors as an option for 500 USD..

These marketing reports always put a positive spin on whatever happens. The Maverick seems to be the big success story. The only positive about the Mach E is they managed to sell roughly the same number in the US in 2025 as 2024. That might be tough to keep up in 2026 with rising prices and I suspect diminishing marketing support. I fear this wonderful car may go the way of the C-Max in a few years. I'm glad I got one before that happens!

Yes, there is the danger of America becoming the Ford and GM “island” of gas cars

But if tariffs come down they are finished. Note that 100+% tariffs on Chinese EVs date from the Biden govt

Perhaps a market partition could be made without tariffs if EVs continue to see slow adoption, where Chinese sell EVs here and Ford and GM sell gas. But the Chinese technology will be in their own gas and hybrid cars as well

Tesla FSD may be the killer app to promote EV adoption. Ironically, if Ford and GM successfully innovate and have competitive ADAS, people won’t have to switch 😄 as FSD can be put in gas cars

Note that Europe too is rolling back EV initiatives. They truly have a sluggish economy and far worse human capital problem as well, which affect their in continent customer base and technological capability

Just to give some notes about Europe car sales and especially EVs.

Norway has reached its goal of mostly all new cars sold being EVs, and thus reduce the economical benefits of it. It’s a reduction of VAT reduction until parity with ICE cars in 2028. Some sources (has to be transelated).

As for other countries, they see good EV sales:

Intensives seems to be upholding (ref article above) for several countries, hence Europe seems to mostly prefer to move forward on the matter even if the 2035 ICE ban / goal was lifted.
