More-so about having a “smart” charger, thanks to the WiFi connection the power company knows when I’m charging in the off-peak times.
Also interesting, curious how a power company could have any access or insight into a household's internet traffic.

It isn't that the power company is monitoring their Internet connection per se. But rather that the specific Internet traffic for the WiFi-enabled EVSE is available to the power company because they provided said EVSE and have hooks into it. And thus they can query the EVSE anytime they want to see what sort of charging is going on.

The power company works with the charger company to have an interface to THEIR systems to get YOUR data.

My power company also has a program where they, working through Ford, give me $100 a year to be able to STOP me from charging during a peak event crisis, and PUSH me to charge during an excess power event. I can tell you that they haven't had any events in many months, and the STOP events are when I'm not charging anyway, and the PUSH events are when I'm not charging - so the CHARGER being OFF stops them from MAKING the car charge (if it wasn't at 90%).

I set up my new Charge Point (level 2) charger to start charging from Midnight to 6am. The same as I have the Mach E set up. The 1st night, it charged and no issues. 2 days later, on it's 2nd charge opportunity and Nada!! Nothing happened last night. I hit the "Start" button this am and it started to charge normally; so it's not a hardware issue. Previously had a "Dumb" JuiceBox and only the MME was set up on timer.

Should I only have one device set to a timer? If that is the case which one (the car or the charger)? Thanks for your thoughts in advance.
Simple answer: Yes. You should only have one device set to a timer.

I am definitely the odd man out - I have a schedule set on both the car and the EVSE for two and a half years with no problems.

I'm the odd man out in a "third" way. I have my cars set to charge when they are plugged in, and I let the chargers do the scheduling. The only thing I set in the car is the percentage of charge. they get when I'm charging at home.

On my Nissan Leaf, I used the Emporium to determine when and how long to charge. The Leaf didn't have an elegant method to set a "Target SOC".

When I got the Mach-E, I quickly learned that it was easier to use FordPass to set charge parameters and just set the Emporium to whatever AMPs I want to draw for the session.

I have the ChargePoint EVSE and have it set to always charge. I ran into the same issue and it wasn’t worth it. I’ll let my MME control the charge times.

Set the charge limit on the car and the charge schedule on the charger.

I really don't understand what the point of smart chargers are, since every car gives you the ability to schedule charge timeframes? I mean easily changing/controlling the output current would be cool, but for charge timeframes it just seems redundant. I have the Grizzl-e classic and it works flawlessly with my MME.
For me, it’s kinda cool that I tell ChargePoint who my electric provider is and what plan and it tells me when off-peak charging is, knows how much I pay for electricity, and can tell me for each charging session how much it cost in electricity. Then again, I haven’t looked at that info in a while.

They don’t get internet traffic lol

They work with Chargepoint to see the times the EVSE is charging the car. All I had to do was plug in the PSEG code into Chargepoint and there’s a handshake. Half-priced electricity for the car now.

I did say access to internet traffic which is exactly what you've just described, it's just getting sent through your charger (since if it wasn't connected to your home wifi it wouldn't work)

Very cool nonetheless and I am excited for when Alberta gets time of day price changes.

I guess I’m the outlier. I use the Wallbox to set the charge start and stop times. The Mach-E kept erasing my charge times and departure times after every update. Also the radio presets. At least that one is fixed now, but not the departure times. I haven’t tried the charge start and stop times again on the car because the Wallbox works fine for me.
