I'm not sure of the extent of the damage yet, but my Mach E was hit pretty hard by a drunk driver while stopped at a stop sign tonight. It did a good job protecting us, so I'll give it that. Part of the undercarriage is flexed downward, and I don't think it involved battery, but am not sure. I'm leaving it outside overnight just to be safe. It is driving a little unsteady, so I'm sure there is damage into the rear wheels or frame. Depending on the insurance estimate, I may not be needing that door after all. On the plus side, hey, one of those hidden ponies is now easy to see....

Hope you’re all okay. Hope the dipshit was arrested. Poor pony :(
Oh that is another story. A long one. It turned into a hit and run, but I personally recognized the driver and passenger. There is an ongoing saga, with lots of BS that probably shouldn't be discussed here until settled.

Being in an accident already involves so much bs and so much of your time, and that’s the best case scenario. Glad you are ok and I’m sorry it’s even worse than it has to be.

Or better yet, hope OP has good coverage for uninsured/ under-insured motorists. It’s somewhat state dependent, but many polices these days actually won’t cover a driver or pay out much, or at all, if the driver is drunk. Seems counterintuitive, but makes sense from an insurance financial perspective. It’s the “we’re not covering you if you do something seriously stupid or against the law like drunk driving.” Good coverage for yourself helps take a lot of the BS out of the equation. You just file your claim with your insurance and let them sort it out and go after the other driver.

Sorry to hear that. But I’m glad no one was hurt. It’s been my experience that EVs and Hybrids get totaled very quickly by insurance companies. I believe due to risk of something wrong with the battery or HV components. I know if my I-Pace gets hit, it will be totaled in a min. Between parts prices and lack of availability, it would be salvaged quickly. Hopefully you will have a good outcome!

Initial (remote) estimate is $5000, but only seems to cover the obviously broken items. I'm thinking the pushed in undercarriage in the back is hiding more.

It hurts to see it :( but good to know that the car protected you well.

I personally recognized the driver and passenger.
How do you know he was drunk?

I got rear ended at very low speed and it missed the bumper completely and just hit the tailgate. Initial estimate was 6500. It ended up being just under 10k when it was all done.

If you say it drives different, that is indicative of suspension damage.
