Is universal platform only way to (not) go? In Europe Ford is selling different electric vehicles for some time now.

I doubt VW will allow Ford to use the MEB platform outside of their EU plants. I would imagine that was part of the deal. Now, could they ask for and get permission for them to use it in the US? Sure but I bet it would be an expensive ask.

Out of curiosity, is there anything that would preclude Ford from using the MEB platform as the basis for the new US UEV platform? I mean, if they already have the design, the production plans, and the production kinks worked out, they would just need to make tweaks for it to be viable with US regulations and then create US designs. I would think starting with something you already have that's relatively successful elsewhere as a starting point would be far less costly and a lot more efficient than trying to start from scratch. If it's got more of a smaller vehicle footprint like those MEB vehicles, that would explain why the Mach E isn't going to that platform.
Why would they use a VW platform after making all the investment in the UEP platform?

Remember, Europe is a very different regulatory environment than the US. I think Ford had no choice but to quickly license someone else’s approved platform to meet the regulatory requirements (and market preferences) in Europe

That was my question, would they invest in fully recreating the wheel, or would they take what they have already and just modify it to fit US regulations... but, I hadnt realized they licensed that platform from VW, although I'm sure they did a lot of breakdowns and used what they learned to build the UEV.

Probably true although I will guess without any research there is a fair amount of overlap. My quick and dirty google search results say the VW ID4 is also based on the MEB platform. That might suggest that the Explorer EV could have been markered in the NAM market had Ford elected to do so. (Or maybe not.) A pure WAG on my part is this was a marriage of convenience for Ford to relatively quickly get a toehold in the Explorer EV size/type market in the EU and not be left out in the cold. I guess it has a more European vibe than a Mach E. And the flip side is VW gets to sell some more MEB platforms.

Mach-E is extremely expensive in the EU, especially now due to all the tarriff disagreements.
A GT would be +/- 90,000 US in Germany.

An Explorer EV is +/- $65,000

After reading this thread, it is apparent @Ford Motor Company needs to come out with an UEV and/or EV roadmaps. It would take some of the guessing many Mach-e owners are grappling with now.

While I doubt Ford would for just the Mach-e, it would be nice though I think the Mach-e will end like the Lightning did. One day Ford will announce a new fun trim and the next announce they are ending production. :(

I suspect a roadmap for the UEV will be better received by stockholders. A two row SUV to replace the Escape/Corsair, 3 row SUV, etc. Farley has hinted at a performance sedan on a few occasions as it meets his fun vehicle concept so why not a new Mach-e generation, too? It would fit the performance CUV segment, eh?

Mussing aside, I do hope Ford does announce follow up models once it gets the production UEV truck finalized early next year. Meanwhile, I will continue to troll Farley about an Adventure EV line like Subaru (yes, I know they are Toyotas with Subaru additions).
This has been my issue from the beginning: no roadmap.

They don’t have to be as darning as GM and announce a complete switch to EVs like Cadillac. But throw us a bone with some meat on it for god’s sake! Tell us the no regrets markets you are committing to. Just like you asked. One of this, two of that, etc. But Farley’s “victory of common sense and affordability” is a disaster of a strategy and NOT WHAT I’M HERE FOR (yes I’m yelling 😛).

Unless you're Volvo??? That was an odd split of hairs, the big one stays, but the runt gets sacrificed...
Are they putting Chinese software on them? If not, that might be the difference.

Yep, it looks like Polestar is more tightly integrated with a Chinese Meizu system, while Volvo is more vanilla Android Automotive.

Wonder if Polestar could switch to the Volvo system in the US, or perhaps Polestar, being pure EV, didn't want to bother with the US market anymore...
