Suppose that someone had a 21' GTPE and absolutely loved everything about it except perhaps the harsh, bouncy ride. And also suppose that that same someone had a wife that really doesn't give a shit about cars in general other than they get you from point A to point B, but REALLY, REALLY doesn't like the harsh, bounce ride.
Is it even possible to re-program the Magnaride to make it more Rally-like? Or alternatively, remove the Magnaride components and replace them with a softer riding setup?
Asking for a friend.

There is nothing smoother than magna ride. A rally is your only softer path as I highly doubt there will ever be a way to apply the rally settings to a car built years before it with the exact opposite of the rally suspension.

I'd offer that this person needs to apply the same logic as a lot of others have: Swap the anti-sway bars with aftermarket ones to remove that stupid pre-load/binding issue the vulcanized frame bushings on the factory bars have, and swap in Rally springs. This person may also have to audition some 19" wheels and tires. ?‍♂?

I wonder if the GTpE magna shocks have enough travel for rally springs.

What, you mean ask markboris? :p
LOL I don't think he's put Rally springs on a GT-PE yet. Not too many people complain about the Magneride cars as having a bad ride. ?‍♂?

Electrify Expo came through Denver last summer and I demoed a new MME Rally. I was astounded at the difference btwn that and my own, er...my friend's GTPE.

Tell your friend to buy a Rally. ?

Unfortunately your friend has the best riding Mach E…… other than the Rally.

People with non-mag ride cars have made them better with spring and shock swaps, but still not quite as good as what your “friend” has with mag ride.

The issue? Suspension travel. We don’t have much. But for the little we have? Mag ride is the best.

The rally is basically mag ride + more suspension travel.

If your friends’s wife doesn’t care about the aesthetics, dropping down to 19 in. wheels with a taller tire would help with the ride some. Cheaper than a magneride swap and will potentially help with range.

The Magneride shocks DO have enough travel when used with the OEM Rally springs. I say this because I have installed Rally springs on a couple of GT's (and one Premium) and the GT's non-Magneride shocks have the same travel length as the GTPE Magneride shocks and there are no issues at all. Also, as Steve and I have recommended many times before, at the same time I always replace the OEM anti-sway bars with Eibach bars to eliminate those stupid vulcanized bushings the OEM bars have not to mention the car will handle MUCH better.

I don’t get why Ford put that dumb preload into the vulcanized bushings. I think the ride with the stock bars would be not as bad if the bushings were vulcanized in a neutral position rather than with that preload. Of course, the ride would be smoother still with the bushings free-floating. Even my Fusion Energi rode better with aftermarket bars (also had vulcanized bushings with a preload). ?‍♂?

So with existing Magnaride shocks, but with Rally springs and Eibach bars, 2 questions:
1. Does the ride height change?
2. Does the Magnaride damping algorithm need to change due to possible ride height change and (perhaps) greater suspension travel?

1. Definitely. You can’t get more suspension travel without increasing the ride height

2. you can’t reprogram the algorithm

Springs, bars and 19 inch wheels and tires and you saved a few years (or at least 10's of thousands of $ this year) payments. However the Rally seats might also help vs the GTPE's (if you're a big boy like me. I can't actually do GTPE seats as my shoulders hit the seat)

Ride height change will be significant from a GT to Rally height. Take a tape measure and get a basis on your car at the wheel well, then see the height from others that have done this, or have a rally.
