I was referring to the federal. There's a chance that NAFTA/MCA would mean Mexican built cars couldn't be treated differently than US built cars.

Yeah, the possible income and price limits would not be good.

I hope they stick to no income or price limit, make it point of sale, and extend it until 50% of all car sales are BEVs. We need people of all income levels to be incentivized to ditch cars that burn fuel and emit carbon.

State-wise, even if the federal rebate was kept at $7.5k, if they made it point of sale, it would help reduce purchase price so that it'd be eligible for Mass MOR-EV.

Nobody knows what's going to happen in Congress. I hope it's good for BEVs.
Agreed. I do believe prices for EV will come down as the technology gets cheaper and economy of scale starts kicking in. The infrastructure is a large part of this as well. Without the ability to charge at home and the fed credit and state rebate, this would have been a non-starter for me.

Here's an interesting one for everyone... Today I was in Western, MA and saw a Mach-E and spoke to the owner. She is a Massachusetts State Rep and while we were talking she said that she got the $10k off the car which is a Premium AWD / Extended rage.

She said she will get the $7500 Fed Rebate and will also get the Mass $2500 I asked how since the vehicle was over $50k she said the $7500 brings it below $50k so it still qualifies. While I certainly love this answer I don't think that is accurate. She said her accountant confirmed it but still don't get it as the State is the one that makes that decision and I thought it was on the bottom line sale price which obviously doesn't take in to account the Fed Rebate as not everyone can get that.

Anyway I thought it was interesting.

On another note she said she met with reps from Electrify America and was talking about getting more DC Fast Charging in more rural areas. That would be nice for sure!

She and the rest of our state reps and state senators could propose legislation that would change it so rebates are taken off MSRP before determining MOR-EV eligibility.

I don't think she's right about this. The $7,500 is a tax credit. It only kicks in when you file your federal income tax return for 2021. I doubt you'll find a dealer who'd be willing to print you a bill which include the $7,500 tax credit. That has nothing to do with the dealer invoice.

I know and 100% agree with you but she insisted she was right. I wish it was accurate that would be quite the benefit for us here in Mass.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the rebate check, I was approved on July 12 and got an email this Wednesday that the check has been mailed. I was thinking they might do a check run once a month but that doesn't even work, it may be once per quarter as they do say that it can take up to 90 days to receive the rebate. Either way, I'm psyched that it's available to us!

Picked up my Mach-E on Thursday from RI. Planning on submitting paperwork next week. So long as MA registration under 50K it is eligible for MOR-EV rebate. Got a contact if anyone looking for Select in stock. No wait. Orders may take a while with chip shortage.

Anyone in Mass. having any luck getting a CA Rt 1 with discount-plan to come in with a rebate-acceptable sub-$50K subtotal (before dest. fees etc.)? I'm finding it *super painful* to find a dealership that will a) accept X-Plan and b) agree to give me an invoice which has a subtotal line item that comes in under $50K.

Acton Ford has been the ones I've gotten the closest with, but they seem to insist on only showing the X-Plan pricing on the sheet *after* destination charges are applied, which means nothing on the invoice showing a <$50K price subtotal.

I've told the dealer I'm happy to pay the $51K *grand total* they're asking for, but asking them to show a pre-destination-fee post-X-plan subtotal seems to be breaking their brain. I can't be the only one on the planet trying to get that $2500 tax break for a CA Rt 1, right?

Thank you for posting on this existing thread instead of starting a new one. ?

Unfortunately, I don't think the terms of the Mass rebate allow something like the X-Plan discount to be taken into account. The plan allows you to deduct the destination fee, so that would be fine to show on your invoice. Also, the MSRP can be looked up by the State, so even if you got a document that looked legit, they still may fact check you and deny the rebate.

I don't know how many MA residents opted for the CA Rt 1 package, so you may be in the minority here. Did you order it that way, or you found a dealer with one on the lot?

Submitted my MA (MOR-EV) rebate application about a month ago. Received email (on 10/6) saying it was accepted and the rebate check for $2500 would be mailed within 90 days.

Regarding the MOR-EV 50K limit. Rebates, taxes, MSRP, etc are not considered when applying. I spoke with the folks at MOR-EV admin and the actual purchase price of the vehicle and any dealer added accessories are the only factors for meeting the 50K limit. You actually need to supply your purchase agreement. I bought mine out of state and a MA registration is also needed. According to MOR-EV people, many dealers are setting the price at 49,999 for customers to allow eligibility. Could certainly be a good bargaining chip. Be wary of dealers trying to provide rebate that is actually the MOR-EV rebate. I happened to have a $2500 dealer rebate for my deal and had to make sure that they were not referring to the MOR-EV rebate. My MME was not over 50K from the get go, so it was never an issue on eligibility, but I can see that some of the other trims and options will push this over 50K. FWIW, MOR-EV peole said that funds designated for program are plentiful, so no immediate pressure to get application in.

The MOR-EV site says that the “purchase price cap of $50,000 refers to the final purchase price of the vehicle, which is set by the manufacturer, and is intended to encompass the value of the vehicle itself, in full.” That seems to say that it doesn’t matter what the dealer’s paperwork says; they’re going to use MSRP of the vehicle, as equipped.

My MME, arriving in a few weeks, is priced at $55,700, so it looks like no MA rebate for me. Laws that have hard caps rather than a declining scale are stupid. They lead to irrational situations where a $50,001 car costs $2,502 more than priced at two dollars less.

The fact that the representative told me dealers were selling for $1 under 50K cap tells me that it may not be the MSRP. They did mention there is a ton of money stull left in the program, so maybe they changed things. Looks like your final price exceeds that, so moot point for you. I'd recommend others to call MOR-EV office as their explanation seems to differ from what is written here. Probably one of the main factors I boought one off the lot and Select trim as I did not need any of the technology package or extended battery, few requirements for our use case. The 1/2 year wait in ordering and excellent dealer incentive were major contributing factors.

Lots of technology and financial incentive education is needed to get into this EV space. There are big differences in vehicle purchasing and use. Pays to do your homework.
