Model S/Model X prices heavily discounted *again*

Elon drops their prices significantly. The Model X now qualifies for US tax credits. All paint options are now free.

Woe unto the recent purchasers. On the other hand, more competition is great for consumers!

Will other luxury EV models such as the Cadillac Lyriq, BMW iX, Audi Q8 Etron, Rivian, etc.. follow suit and similarly discount their pricing? This latest price cut to the Model X is significant for the premium EV SUV market imo.

Lol, I'm not mad. I'm cheering the price cuts. Only better for me since I'm not planning to buy an EV until later this year or 2024.

Yeah, I think all competitors will have to respond in some way. Nobody else has the cost structure (high volume production) to compete 1:1 but it is a vicious cycle... you have to price competitively to maintain volumes to keep unit cost in check. Going the other way, insisting that cars are only sold if they are profitable can be a death spiral. (Jag EV)

I was looking at an Audi GT this summer, and Audi was offering 20k off MSRP on top of the 10% off MSRP that dealers were offering.

I was really tempted to upgrade.

I wonder what the ratio is on the Tesla side for leases vs finance. I know a lot of MME owners financed, that was my plan too, but then they threw rebates at me and at the last minute I went for the Options plan.

As of now... we still got our MME for lower than they are going for today when equally equipped and especially after the full tax credit. But Ford is still on the hook for this car through the Options program, and for regular leases for some.

So they have to be thinking, we can cut prices to chase Tesla and others, but that not only cuts into our slim profit margin, and we push down the used market when we have to take back all those Option/Lease MMEs.

If it gets hurtful enough, we may see one of the first instances of Ford offering a couple thousand "rebate" if you buy your MME at the end of the Options/Lease program, if the used market is so bad that they would take at least a $5k loss sending them to auction.

When our Options is up, it will be September 2025, so we should see some NACS equipped Fords, and what that will do to the used MME market with CCS is unknown, but I can't see it being great for their values. All I know is since I didn't intend to own this MME forever, I am sure glad I made that last second switch to Options.

For sure, it looked like they sold 12k in 2023 so far.

On the bright side, 86k for a Plaid S is quite the bargain.

They axed the SR trim for the model X. I think the price reduction is $18K cheaper than before. Man, oh man. That is a big chop.
