In my experience the widget doesn’t do a vehicle refresh while it is off unless you force one, so that shouldn’t be an issue. There are some other ways you can set up an integration with your smart home where you can have it refresh more often, that would definitely use more power I guess
I used to run the Homebridge Homekit Fordpass Plugin, and there are options to refresh more often, but I eventually got rid of it as it was a little buggy and I was concerned it might be impacting the battery. I also ran the iOS Widget for a bit, but stopped using it.

Yeah that’s the exact integration I was talking about haha

How would you know it doesn't? Not trying to be argumentative but there's nothing in the car that would indicate a refresh in progress.
Because FordPass says "Updated 15 hours ago". If I force a refresh, that doesn't change.

The way I determined it was forcing a refresh was via monitoring the data transmission from the car. I'm looking for the screen shots that I know I provided to someone here.
Does it send any vehicle refresh data over WiFi or just cellular?

It uses WiFi. I forced a refresh every 5 minutes when I was testing this and my MME WiFi usage was pretty extensive. I was able to cause numerous battery drain errors in the process.

I know I have my data screenshots somewhere, I found my proof of testing refresh

Interesting. The only way I've ever been able to get the car to refresh its data remotely without doing a remote start is to change something in the charge settings. That's been my workaround.

The car reports back for a number of events, door locking is one of them as well.

If you take a look at this and the previous picture forcing a refresh you can clearly see when I was testing the refresh.

Mine doesn't. If I open a door, it reports back. If I do a local or remote start, it reports back. If I change any charge settings, it reports back. If I remotely lock/unlock a door or drag down to force a refresh, the data stays hours old. I'd love to change this.

Guess once it falls asleep (not deep sleep, this naming is very confusing thanks ford) it uses cellular because I see it drop off my network at that point and I guess it may hop back on WiFi, I think that’s what I observed on mine.

Might very well be, but forcing a refresh kept it active on WiFi the entire time.

@generaltso that's strange and might be updated firmware on the car. That's something I don't have a way to test. The reason the locking reports back in my assumption is because it also activates the alarm which is how we are able to get the alarm status.

Yes, it's strange and quite annoying. The data displayed in the widget doesn't do me much good because it really just shows me the status when I last turned the car off. So it shows that the 12V battery is reading 15V and the doors are unlocked even though that info is no longer acurate about 30 seconds later. I've gotten into the habit of changing the charge setting back and forth between Charge when plugged in and Use preferred charge settings to force a refresh when I want to see remotely if the car is locked or if the DC/DC converter is running.

I've applied all updates available for my car in FDRS, but we know there are still newer versions for some modules on Job 2 cars, so maybe that's the difference.

What widget are you using?

The Scriptable widget for iOS.
Let me look at tonestos code and see what he's doing for the refresh. To be honest I've never looked at his because I'm an Android guy.
