@Jiji Is this available to download?
Yes but it isn't really practical as I used a Raspberry Pi with a CAN bus adapter running custom Python software to collect the data from the OBDII port. Then you need an iPhone to supply the precision GPS data and then a server running the database where the data is stored for viewing by this iPhone app. Software involves Python, Swift, and InfluxDB, and Xcode so not for the faint of heart.

You really have to be nuts to want to do this.

This winter I hope to start a new project to reduce the software/hardware complexity by using an off-the-shelf OBDII adapter and an iPhone to collect the data and forward to the cloud. This is what you should be anticipating as it is scalable to a larger, and less technical, audience.

You no longer need to be nuts, just a little crazy.

I can now collect the data from a ObdLink MX+ - no more Raspberry Pi's, no more cables and no more power draw that has FordPass yelling if I leave the original Raspberry Pi plugged in the ODBII port.

Here is a new trip, recorded earlier today using nothing more than an iPhone and the ObdLink MX+ with the OBD Record app and visualized with the OBD View app:

Ford Mustang Mach-E My winter Mustang Mach-E project 1676577835111

To duplicate this setup and have a trip/charging logger of your own you need:
- ObdLink MX+ OBDII adapter
- InfluxDB cloud database (< $1/month, free with 30 day data retention)
- OBD Record (iPhone app to record events)
- OBD View (iPhone app to display events)

I plan to post the source code for both iPhone apps on GitHub for the adventurous with Xcode experience but I think I can also offer beta builds via TestFlight (ugh, something else to learn) so only an up-to-date iPhone is needed to join the party. I can also host a few accounts in my InfluxDB cloud account meaning you just need the ObdLink MX+ and an iPhone to get onboard.

I will start a new thread soon that details the requirements and benefits. It looks like I will distribute via the Apple TestFlight app, this will give you 90 days for each posted build to explore without needing to build any code (which for most is a problem) and I don't need to submit them for App Store approval.

But I just got it working for trips and am testing the L2 charging sessions, hopefully I can get the DCFC code built and tested and clean things up for an initial preview.

Wow I wish the MX+ wasn't so much. I have an EX (with cable) and can use my disposable Samsung tablet but, cables, hubs and a 8 inch tablet. grr. One of these days I'll get the MX+

Great work on this thanks for your efforts!

Does the MX+ show battery state of health?

Thnx.

Yes, and battery age and much more.

While I use the MX+ whenever I drive the MME to record trips and charges I am looking to replacing it with a single app that pulls data from the FordPass API which opens things up to more users.

Very many thnx, Jiji.

I doubt I’ll ever use it for trips, covering 30,000 miles per year and working the ‘Stang hard I don’t have the time for that sort of data, interesting though I know it must be.

I just need SOH, my £6,000 worth of diagnostic kit just don’t give me that stat, or I have not been able to find it, and I’ll also use it in my work as a forensic vehicle examiner investigating fraudulent motor claims amongst many other things I expect it will not be long until cars are having “accidents” when their batteries are fffffffffatigued!

Your advise is greatly appreciated.

I ordered one from Amazon for £112 and it arrives tomorrow ?

So tomorrow is playtime!!!!

MX+ arrive here today and I can’t find SOH in the dashboard item lists.

Can you point me in the direction.

After choosing dashboard item attributes, I arrive at this menu (screenshot attached) and I’ve been though each menu item and can’t find hybrid/EV SOH anywhere, or it is called something else

Enter the Dashboard Editor in Car Scanner, and add SoH as shown below:

? Didn’t see dashboard editor, man & machine clearly was not in perfect harmony??‍♂

Very many thanks for the pointer.

I’ll give it a go tomorrow after my visit to dealer who are changing my puddle lights and test driving the transmission whine and a new creaking noise from rear suspension or motor area.

You can do it by creating a new dashboard, or editing an existing one. I have edited the ones CarScanner built. It is easier IMO.

This screen is probably from the OBDLink app.

For SOH you need to use another app Car Scanner ELM OBD2, and choose Connection profile: Mustang Mach-E during initial setup.

One of pre-loaded Dashboard screens in Car Scanner shows SOH and battery age in months.

This is true. CarScanner includes SoH in an existing dashboard. No need to add it unless you want it on another dashboard, which I did...

Thnx, didn’t realise I could use other apps on the MX+

I’ll give it a go ?

Been at dealer most of morning having my puddle lights replaced and my whining creaking transmission diagnosed.

Looks like new driveshaft & wheel bearing are required on driver’s side under warranty as I reported the fault just within the warranty period..

I may just pay to have the other side done to ensure the longevity of the transmission.

If one side failed I wonder if the other side’s not far behind it, car’s now out of warranty at 63,000 miles and don’t want it off the road again any time soon when/if other side goes??‍♂

Am I crazy??‍♂??‍♂
