New Climate Settings in FordPass App

Lightning existed years before USB-C was "standardized". Unlike the "standard" alternative ("micro-USB"), lightning offered a non-polarized connection, was smaller, and I believe, offered some small security features (in that devices that connected via lightning "authenticated" because of a chip in the connector).
Also, people forget that "USB-C" isn't really standardized. Depending on which type of USB-C cable you get, you may only be able to provide power, or you may be limited in the data speeds the cable can support. And, of course, the cables are conveniently unlabeled, leaving it as an exercise to the user to figure out what they've got on their hands.

The first paragraph is true. The second, not. There is a written standard for the USB 3.x Tupe C connector. It has gone through standards committee and been ratified. That cable manufacturers choose to cheap out and reduce the number of conductors in cables and offer “charge only” cables is beyond the scope of the standards committee. Likewise, choosing cables with crappy impedance or time-domain performance is also on the manufacturer. Those cable manufacturers are simply not following the standard. This kind of stuff has been going on ever since high-speed data transmission became a thing. ?‍?

Just FYI, a company I worked for sat on a few standards committees. SCSI and FC most notably. ??

I finally was able to get whatever update it was and set the temperature when starting the climate on my 2023 Mach E select.

2021 Premium with Ford Pass 5.06 which does not have this setting. Wondering if the Job 1 and year 1 models are going to be last or is it "soon" again?

Well you know what they say on this forum.
There aren't really any official Mach-E's built in 2021. Those are just functional mockups.

So after some playing around, if you reset the ford pass app (full reset, remove the vehicle) and go through the relinking process (after reinstalling the app) the climate controls came to life. (2022 prem ext) on latest sync version and latest ford pass app. A bit of a pain but worked for me.

Whether or not it’s “standard”, there definitely are cables that support higher data rates and those that don’t. Also, there are USB-c cables from Apple that support higher power (they are thicker) for example, for MacBooks, and some that don’t (like the thin ones that come with the iPhone).

98% of my house is lightning or some random grab bag of versions of USB micro.

And now the other 2% are USB C. With now part of my Apple devices being C and part being Lightning….which IMO annoys me more than just keeping lighting.

Personally I’ve never understood how switching to C is supposed to reduce my number of cords. But I guess I don’t go out and upgrade every device I own right away.

Well, mine has a November 2020 build date. It came from Dearborn. Michigan with a Ford Motor Company address listed on the previous registration that somehow the dealership forgot to remove prior to the sale to this author.
