New Climate Settings in FordPass App

To be honest…I have no idea.

i started looking for the feature Tuesday afternoon, and I did not have it.

i already had 1phone 16 pro, 18.1 beta, and Fordoass 5.6.0.

it just showed up this afternoon.

i will say i have had 4 MME updates in the last 4 days, but nothing identifies a ‘FordPass’ update.??‍

“Soon” then I’m sure for me. My last OTA was 7 September

what about the setting for remote climate start that set the temp to either auto or last used temp. Now that many are getting this ability to set they’re desired temp. Any clue if that setting is still there or Even relevant any longer?

I'm on Android 5.6.0 and I don't see that. Car is 2021 Premium FWIW.

When trying to extend the climate time - hoping making that pop up go way would reveal these new settings. But no, just a weird error telling to to drive the vehicle to rest the multiple climate requests.

Not sure the issue to which you are referring. SMS was created before widespread encryption was possible, so it was not created with encryption in mind. RCS is encrypted to the server, but not end-to-end unless the two phones are running Google Messages, which adds an encryption layer.

There are talks about adding end-to-end encryption into the standard but that hasn't happened yet, so RCS messages between Android and iOS devices are not currently encrypted end-to-end. They are still more secure (and a much better experience for users) than SMS/MMS, so it's still progress.

Actually, if you want to dive into the technical details, SMS (Short Messaging Service) was an artifact of the original GSM protocol. They had a 140 byte field in the header that was undefined and realized they could use that field to send text messages. The cool thing is that, since it wasn’t the voice channel and was in the part of the protocol that was used to connect the user terminal to the network, SMS messages were more likely to get through, even if the network was congested and voice traffic couldn’t get through. The problem is that SMS messages were not encrypted at any point in the network (note: carriers might have encrypted traffic traversing their internal networks, in bulk, but not his is not guaranteed).
The beauty of iMessages is end-to-end encryption from the sending device to the receiving device. Of course, the drawback is that iMessages (like any other data) travels over a data channel, which can be subject to availability and congestion. I don’t know much about RCS, but I suspect it works similarly.

Yes, all true. I still don't know to what issue you were referring, however, which is what prompted my reply in the first place.

Lightning existed years before USB-C was "standardized". Unlike the "standard" alternative ("micro-USB"), lightning offered a non-polarized connection, was smaller, and I believe, offered some small security features (in that devices that connected via lightning "authenticated" because of a chip in the connector).
Also, people forget that "USB-C" isn't really standardized. Depending on which type of USB-C cable you get, you may only be able to provide power, or you may be limited in the data speeds the cable can support. And, of course, the cables are conveniently unlabeled, leaving it as an exercise to the user to figure out what they've got on their hands.

The good thing that came out of the USB-C transition (from an Apple Fanboy perspective) is the woven cable sheaths and the more durable junction between the cable and the connector (I used to measure Apple lightning cable lifetimes in months).

Wasn’t active until the update, then it appeared. Just an fyi everyone. iOS 18.0.1, FP 5.6.0, the only other update a week ago was IPMA-24.204.8.27
