I’ve had my MachE since 2021. It’s a standard range AWD, so only has about 210miles of range. In all this time, we’ve never road tripped with it, bc I found public charging to be too anxiety-inducing. Well, that abruptly changed when my free ford adaptor arrived this week. We are in the midst of a short weekend away, where I used Tesla superchargers for the first time. What a game changer for anxious folks like me. Knowing the amount of chargers available to me has essential doubled has made the trip relatively carefree. Both times I’ve charged have been so so easy. All this is to say, if you’re like me, give it a try once you have your adapter. It’s really doable!!!

So easy, you just have to parallel park, or jump a curb, or have ramps….

Not saying I’m unhappy they added them, but Tesla wasn’t made for non Tesla and that needs fixed.

And Tesla is well aware of that.

They also aren't great for charging the Cybertruck either. The version 4 superchargers are more accommodating of different chargeport locations, but it's going to take a long time for those to roll out.

It might be nice to not scare people off, it isn't +that+ bad.

Pull though spots dont have that problem, and any location with a bunch of empty slots you can pull up in the slot to the right of the charger.

I know it might be bad sometimes, but i didn't have to do anything un natural other than straddle a line on my charges so far

EA isn’t that bad either…….

You should 100% know that you could pull up into a Tesla spot and not be able to charge without additional tools, or even without there being 2 chargers available side by side.

Now if there is a line of cars waiting to charge, tell me how you guarantee taking 2 spots? Or even 3 depending on how the curbs and blockers are.

Just facts of the matter…if that scares someone…well it’s the situation we currently have.

I agree it's ugly but it also isn't as bad as needing to jump curbs or parallel park every time which you imply. It is only sometimes ? . The uncertainty is painful. So far i have been lucky.... But all reports are a stion that is not very full is easy to find a spot

I think the current solution is the best possible in our imperfect world.

The other option is very limited access to v3 chargers because extending every cable or expanding every parking space is not possible. (My closest charger has a spot or two between two very large concrete pillars that mean a non tesla can never use it).

I would rather have access with the current problems than none at all, and no one is forcing anyone to use Tesla v3 locations. I will probably bias toward ea still for a while and certainly will avoid superchargers that are even remotely full up.

I recently stopped at a V3 supercharger at the new Buc-ee's in Colorado to charge as the "local" EA station was full. There are 12 stalls and 11 were empty mid-afternoon during the week. You can park to the right of the the end stall without taking up two charging stalls or you can pull in between two stalls to charge using the charger on the left but blocking the one on the right. I started charging at 33% and peaked at 158.8 kW

I agree with you. Although I haven't received my adapter yet and don't have first person experience, it looks to me as if the glass is half full and not half empty ...

If you have seen my posts over the last 3 years, you will know I'm no fan of Electrify America. That being said, I did notice a massive improvement this summer taking several 4+ hour jaunts away from the house. So, props to EA for improving. But, I'm still really upset with them for their launch!!!

But yes, I was also able to use my Tesla Adapter this summer and it was flawless!!! The biggest difference I see is how quickly it works. With EA there is a good 2-4 minute "handshake". With Tesla it is less than 10 seconds and it is charging. Now, no info on the screen for Tesla, but with the FP app, I can see how fast I'm charging; so, really no need for the screens.

@NovaMustang glad to hear your road trip/public charging experience was positive and improved.

A negative perception of public charging is still at the top of the list of reasons why people say they don't want a BEV (yet). So be sure to share your story with more than those of us who have already taken the plunge ?

The new Circle K chargers are very quick to handshake and I was seeing 120 kw till 75% then 100. Used the one in Greenville twice now. Less than a half mile from I385

How about another estimate, just for statistical purposes? I’m gonna say that in 98% of charges, EA handshake is less than 1 minute. If it’s longer, then it’s probably not working. Granted, that 1 minute seems long compared to using their app. The flip side, for me anyway, is that my Tesla P&C doesn’t work at all, which is slower than 1 minute, in, at least 98% of the time. But, hey, it’s no biggie either way. I didn’t buy an electric car because I’m in a hurry.

You and I have had very different expericences. All 3 Tesla stops (all in GA) were flawless for P&C. How long EA actually takes. I'd have to time it. Maybe it's a minute, but it's a LONG minute!!! I'm glad your not in a hurry, but most of society is. And if we are trying to move to a more sustainable future, charging needs to be faster.
