I have noticed that my car now sets the parking brake when I put the car in park. I think this feature was there if one was on a steep hill, but it never worked on my driveway.

I know that this was not happing on my car at least as of last month because if I ever did not set the brake after I put it in park, the car would roll back and I can feel the car stop on the parking pawl. It appears that my car at least does automatically set the brake now when it is in park.

I received 23-PU0105-DC-CHG2 on June 6th and on June 7th my car updated to 4.2.6. I had not driven the car much until yesterday. When I came home and put the car in park I heard the parking brake set. The red brake light does NOT illuminate but the parking break does seem to set. I drove to a very flat section of road and put it in park and I do now hear the brake setting.

I had just left this voice feedback to Ford on my card on May 12:

"even a Toyota corolla has a parking brake that automatically sets when you put the car in park."

So I think my car is now operating the parking brake automatically now (exactly as I was hoping it would operate). Has anyone else noticed this feature in operation and/or know what update changed this?

I have all the updates available in FDRS, and my car does not do that.

From the user manual, " The electric parking brake could apply when you shift to park (P) without the brake pedal fully pressed. The electric parking brake applies when you shift to park (P) on large slopes. The electric parking brake releases with the drive away release function or manually. "

Try it again pressing down harder on the brake?

I can't explain it either...but something changed recently as the parking brake does seem to be engaged every time I put it in park, regardless of the road being flat or inclined.

Yes that is what I was referring to...but NOW my car does that on flat ground or minor slopes, not just large slope as the manual says.

I’ve noticed this recently as well. When parking in my garage the car doesn’t roll onto the parking pawl anymore.

I just tried this out and the OP is correct. The parking brake is now set automatically and a prompt comes up on the IP staying the parking brake is set. I turned down the volume on my radio so I could hear the whir of the brake setting. Here’s what I did: come to a complete stop; lift my foot off the brake; place the car in park; turn off the car. I was on a flat surface.

Hmm, mine does NOT do this and still bounces off the park pawl in my garage. I use 1PD.

ABS software was updated in 4.2.6 so that feature was included, but I’m not understanding why it seems to only work on some vehicles?

I noticed mine also do it.

In the past parking in the garage it would bounce back and forth on the parking pawl. Not anymore.

I also occasionally see the "Parking brake set" popup on the dash. In addition, when starting it again the red brake indicator is lit.

I use 1PD as well and not clear what update added this feature…but it is my guess it is either 4.2.6 or 23-PU0105-DC-CHG2 as an undocumented feature.

I am hopeful that your car will also get this update soon…It only arrived recently.

I have the latest software.

Can anybody else with a 2022 Premium AWD and 4.2.6 confirm or deny the park pawl bounce disappeared after updating?

Mine’s a 2021 but has all available updates. It still bounces off the pawl.

2021 and I've notice mine starting to do this automatically. I always put the brake on, since i hate the bounce that happens when the hand brake is not set, but i notice it starting to apply before i even touch the hand brake switch.
great new feature... i just hope its not a bug

I thought I was imagining things! I’ve also noticed mine start doing this after one of the two most recent updates. Happens every time I park (sloped, flat ground, doesn’t matter).

When I put the gear in drive or park I can hear the auto-brake make a slight whirring sound.

2022 Select eAWD in EA program.
