As the title says, we did a test drive yesterday and I'm completely blown away by the car. We drove a Select model for about 20 miles of mixed driving, twisty country roads to an expressway-like section. I totally loved the car.

My first question is; how good is the supplied charger? I have a 30 amp 240 volt outlet in my garage. With the supplied charger what kind of charging will I get per hour. Also, at my other house I will need to have something installed. Right now I have the original 100 amp service panel with a small 8 bay sub-panel with one empty bay. I'm going to talk to the electrician about upgrading but if I get a 50 amp 240 volt socket, what kink of charging per hour will I get?

Do I need a stage 2 charger? Should I get the Ford one or aftermarket?

And finally for now, can someone explain the financing that's being offed on the Mach-e website;

    3. Renew -- Trade-in for a New Ford or Lincoln; any excess equity can be used toward your next purchase

  • What does all that mean? My son told me that you can pay it off at any time and that Ford will buy you out. He left me more confused. Can someone explain that to me?

Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to getting a Mach-e. Hopefully this Summer!

Jim,
I will answer simple question and leave complex electrical stuff to other experts here :)
The mobile charger that comes with the car is sufficient to charge the car at home.
Particularly if you have the 240V line you will get at least 23 miles added PER HOUR.
For the standard range battery (211 miles) that would take less than 10 hours overnight to fully charge.
Level 2 charger can bump it up to 30+ miles per hour added.

It's been a month and we love the car.
Go for Premium if you can find one.

The included mobile charger (EVSE) is a 32A unit and cannot be plugged into a 30A circuit. It requires 40A minimum circuit. It is a level 2 unit - that just means 240V. It also has a 120V cord and can be used as a level 1.

There are aftermarket EVSEs (do a forum search) that have been discussed on here at length. Many can be throttled down to operate on a 30A circuit.

I purchased the Ford Connected Charge Station, but the consensus here is that you can get more bang for the buck with an aftermarket unit.

I'll let others more familiar with Ford Options comment on the financial aspect.

Welcome to the forum!

As mentioned, you can’t use the 30amp outlet with the included charge- it’s not the correct plug and its not sized big enough.
The best option would be to upgrade it to a nema 14-50 circuit (new outlet, wiring, breaker). The mobile charger is perfectly adequate but you don’t want to be unplugging it from the wall everyday. Outdoor rated wall EVSE are cheap enough (grizzl-e).

what about financing confuses you?
there are many great posts about ford options but if you qualify for the 2500 discount there no reason NOT to go with options.
Options is just a loan with lower monthly payments and a large final payment. You can pay it off any time. At the time the final payment is due you can pay it, re-finance it, give it back to ford, or trade it in. This is just like any other financed vehicle with the added bonus of a guaranteed buyback minus cleaning fee (assuming you’re not over the mileage).

The easiest way to look at Ford options is that it is very similar to a lease but you own the car so you can get the tax credits. At the end of the option you can hand the car back to Ford or you can choose to pay the balloon payment.

The included charger will be sufficient if you have the necessary Nema outlet. I chose to install a level 2 because it is faster and much easier to plug in when you want to charge. Look for a tax credit and you may end up getting it for free depending on your states available tax credits and rebates.

Regarding your question on Ford Options--read posts by hybrid2bev--but i wouldn't bug him directly unless he already not answered your specific question.

Thanks eveyone, reading about the Ford options makes it very clear. It's a nice deal and it's exactly what my son said. It's just easier to understand when I'm reading it. My wife is fully on board with the new car. We just have to settle on the color. I want red, she want's ice blue siver and we might settle on charcoal.

She's working the phone and email trying to get us some kind of deal. I'm really looking forward to it.

We'll be getting a Premium with AWD and long range battery. She want's to get the factory floor mats. I'd get something less espensive but I'll probably go along with her.

If you're ordering, tomorrow is the last day for a 2022. They are cutting orders off.

One dealer told my wife that and two other said that they didn't know anything about it. Last night I searched google for that and found nothing. How do you know this?

See here.

Also putting in an order is a free option. Just ties up $500. You can always put in your order and not take delivery later. If you find one on a lot somewhere you can buy it and just let the dealer know you wont be taking delivery on your order. A few things when you order:

-get in writing the price you will be paying at delivery from the dealer, the email from Ford isnt good enough b/c final pricing is with your dealer
-get in writing that your deposit is refundable
-some dealers will put ADM on their ordered cars, others wont. There is a thread somewhere on this forum that lists dealers that dont have order ADM. I see you are in NY, i know that Malouf Ford in NJ doesnt put any ADM on customer ordered cars (I have a '22 ordered there now).

I bought 2 Ford Rangers from Malouf in the 90's, a 94 and 97. They were good to deal with.

Well, I guess I'm officially waiting til 2023. I don't mind. It's just ridiculous trying to buy a car right now. I love the car, but it sure isn't going to happen right now!
