Hi.

I am currently considering transitioning from my older BMW to a fully electric vehicle, with a preference for something on the sportier side.

I have test-driven several models, including the Tesla Model 3 Performance, Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, and a BMW PHEV, among others. However, I found the Tesla to be underwhelming—it felt lightweight and unrefined, lacked driving feedback, and did not deliver the acceleration I had anticipated. The BMW PHEV, while familiar, did not feel like a significant upgrade, and I would like to move to a fully electric vehicle.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, which I recently test-drove at a dealership, impressed me with its solid build quality and engaging driving dynamics. However, I am uncertain about the SUV-like styling, as I was looking for something that feels more like a traditional performance sedan. Additionally, while the acceleration was impressive, I found it somewhat overwhelming in its sudden delivery.

Currently, our household includes a Hyundai PHEV and a Genesis GV70 (ICE). I have not yet had the opportunity to test-drive the Genesis GV60 due to unfavorable weather conditions, but we appreciate the interior quality and driving experience of our GV70.

Given my requirements, I am considering a pre-owned 2021-2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition with approximately 50,000-65,000 km (Canadian). I would like to know if this is something still worth it in 2025 and whether there are any specific concerns or red flags to be aware of when looking at these.

The car will primarily be used for commuting to the office a few times a month and personal errands. A four-door configuration is essential, as I need convenient access for my three-year-old son's car seat—something that has been a challenge with my current two-door BMW.

I appreciate any insights or recommendations. Thank you.

Personally I dislike SUVs and I love my GT. I traded in my Cadillac CT5.

I am considering a pre-owned 2021-2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition with approximately 50,000-65,000 km (Canadian).
I drive a 2022 GT PE right now and have been recently researching the (US) market for possible alternatives. I'm very happy with my car, just wondering if anything similarly priced would make me "happier".

My research keeps me concluding that the used Mach-E GT PE offers a specific performance/practicality combination at the price that is hard to beat. Especially if the Model 3 Performance doesn't interest you.

That said, here are two cars roughly priced near the GT PE that you might find interesting (for reference the GT PE has 480 hp and 634 lb-ft).
  • BMW i4 M50 (536 hp and 586 lb-ft).
  • Polestar 2 Dual Motor w/ Performance Pack (476 hp and 546 lb-ft).
The rear seat in the Polestar is more practical than the BMW for full-sized adults. Either would work fine for children and carseats. The cockpit of the Mach-E versus these two cars are all very different. Each manufacturer has a distinct view of what an EV should be. The Mach-E was intended to be a Tesla competitor while the BMW and Polestar have more luxury aspirations. BMW is more "high tech luxury" while Polestar is more "understated simplicity luxury".

If I were making my purchase decision again then all three of these cars would tempt me.

I used to commute in a 2021 GT-Performance Edition. Great commuter car. I recently traded it in on a 2024 GT with Performance Upgrade. The 2024 is a little smoother. It also has a more relaxed performance limiter. Performance junkie here (and gobbler of dog treats!). ??

Anyhow, if you are looking for a used GT-PE the car’s weak spot is its High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB). If it has its original unit and you drive aggressively, it will likely break the HVBJB. The third generation unit (so far) has shown a much lower failure rate than the first two generations. ??

Used prices for the MME are actually very attractive. You get a fun car for a reasonable price. ??

Regarding the acceleration pedal response: this is customizable by changing drive "modes": Whisper, Engage, and Unbridle. It's also largely impacted by turning 1PD on or off.

I have a standard range, rear motor Mach-E, so it's a lot less powerful than a GT PE. I prefer to keep it in Whisper with one pedal drive turned on.

Good morning!

I think from what you’ve said, the MME is on top of the list… I was on the same boat as you. BMW was my go to from 2011 (528i), 2014 (2 door stick shift 428i xdrive) to my last one which was the ONE I always wanted but I was too “young” to justify making a high payment and that was the 2018 X6 M series… I loved BMW… Covid hits and I sold it made money and got myself a 2017 Ducati Cafe Racer… no need for a car during Covid (in my case). Then the electric was the thing, so I decided my next car was gonna be electric to try it out. I waited lol… I never liked the Tesla, looked and felt cheap made… the first generations ALWAYS have issues, so I kept waiting for the “one”. Then i saw the MME… that was the one… but I waited. I didn’t even test drove it, I gave it another year and in 2023 I started looking for my MME. It was hard to find. But I needed it exactly for the same reasons you do. Go to work, errands, and fun. My MME has 2230ish miles and I got it last June. I’m 15 min away from everything I need. I considered getting another BMW, again IMO, just me, I cannot justify the price tag for a BMW (they dont make them like before)… It took me 3 months to find my MME. i was in no rush, and I was going to get the color I wanted with the upgrades I needed, and good price. I am so happy I waited and didn’t just get hat was available then. I have nothing bad to say about my MME…. From design, I have glass top, black interior in the Carbonized Metallic Gray. The three things I wanted. Swapped the OEM wheel and tires for staggered 20’s, removed the side emblems, got windshield and front windows tinted and I am so happy I waited to get what I wanted. For me, its the perfect car for my needs. From what I read, you’ll be driving it like me… you have options with the MME, and I don’t regret breaking the BMW cycle. Sorry for the long post, that just shows how happy I am with choosing the MME as my first electric car. I’ll post a couple of pictures of my MME, it looks sporty yet it also blends in if I go to a fancy restaurant (just an example) with the high priced SUV’s…. 10 out of 10

I have a ‘21 MME GT. Still drives and feels like new. Whisper mode and 1 pedal driving is my preference. Very sporty on mountain winding roads. Fun to drive. Love ❤ my pony!

We love ours in general (4 years now), but before deciding on an MME, I'd recommend a test drive over rough city streets, with someone in the back seat.

The GT PE is better since it has magnaride, but still, it's rougher than an ICE sedan if that's your benchmark.

What’s equally as important is the quality of your dealers support. A lot of dealers really suck and can make your ownership experience a living hell.

It was. And it was considered a pretty close vehicle that first year (especially when the MME was getting the $7500 tax credit and Model Y was not). But then costs soared on Ford, and the IRA reversed the tax credits on both models. The MME took a $15,000 hit (relative to the MY) and it's been a struggle to get close to profitability ever since.
