The Ford one isn’t too bad, you can also do multitouch gestures on it which you can’t do on CarPlay maps for some reason.
Oh, yes, come to think of it, I was giving it multi gestures until I stopped using it ?????

“Isn’t too bad” is the sort of best selling point a the Polestar salesman at next charge point used when his opening main selling point was “it looks nothing like a Volvo” when it absolutely does, is made by Volvo’s patent company ??‍♂???‍♂?

Hi Folks,

New to the EV world, just took delivery on a 23 Mach E GT. 2 questions:

1) Navigation won't search for charging stations. We set up a lot in the SYNC app at the dealer, but I had a strange issue on the drive home. Can use the navigation app to plan a route, but when I tried to search for charging stations along the route the charging station tile on navigation was light color and would not activate. Got some kind of error message about registering ... I have and the ford pass app worked like a charm paying for a charge. So anyone know how to fix this?

2) Are people using the ford navigation or say Apple Maps on car play. Supposedly, it works well and even can detect battery status. If I plan a trip on Apple Maps on my phone it knows nothing about EV's, but I assume when car play is activated, that will be an option. Advice very welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Steve
Google maps have worked better for us.

Yeah, so seems like your connected services aren’t activated yet. Not sure how long it’s been, I’ve heard it can sometimes take a day or so? Does your remote start work from FordPass when you are out of Bluetooth range?
Another good question - I'll check!

I just don’t find any car maker’s sat nav system good enough and when there’s a perfectly good system on iPhone reflecting and reacting to live traffic conditions I can’t see the point in using our car’s own nav system.
One reason would be to precondition the battery, during winter, when heading to a DC fast charger.

Google maps have worked better for us.
See above reason they don't. And they don't find the chargers.

Run GoogleMaps on one phone.
Run ABRP on another phone.
Run Ford Nav on main screen.

Ok, I use all of them, it’s just another option, and I wouldn’t dissuade anyone from using it. If you got that mad at it, maybe it’s you lol.

Always a matter for personal preference, I suppose.

I’m old school is my problem and like to be in control so I do the joined up thinking and am never again let down by systems failing to integrate or do the joined up thinking etc so I use maps for maps, charge point network apps for charge point planning, schedule the pre-conditioning myself etc etc etc.

I’m sure there are easier ways which others may prefer, we’re all different and I’m happy to accept this as the reality.

Enjoy what you each prefer, people.

Agree, don’t know why Ford wastes effort on providing a subpar navigation system. They should focus on other features and hand off navigation to Apple and Google

Ok, got it working - it involved unlinking and re linking FordPass. Now another question. I plotted a route from our house in Tucson to Vegas on the ford navigation system. Worked well and gave us the 2 chargers on the way that my wife had planned. When I did the same thing on Apple Maps it took us 100 miles out of the way and had us charge 3 times. Do you think this is because Apple Maps does not really know the car (needs to work with any EV,) and it would correct itself as I was driving? Better mapping or no, if it takes me 100 miles and 2 hours out of the way it is not a winner in this case.

And they don't find the chargers.
I saved the chargers that I might need in my trip in the PlugShare, had it running in AndroidAuto, and from the bookmarked location can select a location and click "Navigate", which was transferred to GoogleMaps navigation.

I traded in my '21 Select and picked up a '23 Premium last week....salesman did all the stuff BUT there ended up being a problem at FORD with connected NAV.....I was on the phone with Ford Pas and Ford connected sevices for 1 1/2 hours on July 3rd......they escalated my problem, said they would contact me in 7-10 days....they called today....Ford had a problem with all new cars.....problem solved.....I had to do a reset of connected nav in car......if you have a problem call Ford's Connected Services at 1-866-861-0420....they were pleasant and very helpful

Apple Maps on CarPlay will help you find charge locations. I used it with no navigation issues for a road trip from Minneapolis, MN to Midland, MI and back. My only navigation complaint was are around routing or not touting on a ferry (not related to EV driving).

please note once your Mach E is properly setup with Apple Maps that you will need to deselect it when driving other cars or it will want to route you to a charging station and it will also warn you that it has lost connection to the car and battery charge may not be correct.

The only changing problems I had on on that trip was a Rivian charger didn’t work (couldn’t logon to an account I had setup) and waiting for an Electrify America charger at one spot due to half of them being worked in by a technician.
