The outstanding question on the Mach E range is what were the adjustments used to get from 250 to 270 and what are the real world implications of those adjustments.

Porsche and Tesla take an opposite approach on using the allowed EPA range adjustments and those different approaches reveal themselves in vastly different real world range, Taycan vs Model S.

I suspect Ford landed somewhere between the two approaches used by Porsche and Tesla, overly conservative and overly optimistic. Only time and real world experiences will tell.

Perhaps a better standardized test will emerge that makes range comparisons more useful.
Problem is that all these nuances are lost on the general public and most mainstream media. I get why these automakers (namely VW) are being conservative, but they are handing Tesla a huge advantage. Of note, the Mach E has a higher WTLP number than the comparable model Y (AWD long range). Also you can see that Tesla's WTLP numbers are very close to their EPA numbers while other automakers are have a bigger delta between the two methodologies.

It is unbelievable to me that the EPA would allow this sort of manipulation of the numbers.

Yahoo! isn't really journalism.
The original source is TechCrunch. I don't really follow TC, but I gather they have a mix of professional journalists and click bait amateurs. I know of at least one professional in the AV space who publishes there.

Anyway, the headline is lousy, and it got republished all over. My Mach-E search on Twitter first showed me results from India, for instance.

Arguably just as bad was Fox News' click bait headline:

Oh boy, THIS far? I just have to know! What's this one weird mileage the Mach-E can travel that doctors don't want you to know about?

The headline could have qualified as journalism if Ford missed their target, or if it was published over a year ago, when Ford first put out it's target. "When a dog bites a man, that is not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog, that is news."
