Opening Frunk Stops Remote Start

Seeing if anyone else has seen this happen, or if there's an explanation.

1. Car is remote started from app (usually while checking out at grocery store to cool down).
2. Frunk is opened (either manually inside using the lever near the drivers' door, or using the app)
3. Remote start is cancelled. AC stops blowing in 100deg heat while items are loaded into the frunk. Car gets hot, wasting all the time/energy to cool it down.

On my Odyssey's remote start system, there's a sensor that prevents remote start if the hood is open (for safety reasons, don't want that fan blade starting up while you have your hands inside). But I can't figure out why this would happen on the Mach E?

It's functioning as designed. Probably a holdover from the logic used in their ICE vehicles.

I haven’t noticed that my car was nutty hot inside after opening the frunk to drop groceries into the frunk tub. It only holds a couple of bags that don’t take long to transfer. Even after returning the shopping cart the car is still pretty cool inside, so I didn’t even notice that it shut down. I will have to pay attention to this the next time I go shopping on the way home from work (since my 4-legged child goes to work with me). ??

Could be worse. My wife's Toyota turns off as soon as anything is opened, including a door.

Yes my remote start also stops when the frunk is opened.

Yup, that’s leftover ICE programming in the PCM that was never removed. I kinda wish they would fix that.

Yeah, it happens fast when the temps are 100+ (up to 120 here in PHX). Just yesterday my on-board temperature showed 111 in the sun. But certainly more of an inconvenience than anything.

Yep our RX is the same way, But my FFE. Sometimes it'll keep running, other times it stops as I walk up, some times as I open the door, some times as I sit down. As annoying as the FFE sounds for this I'd really be happier with my RX is it acted like the FFE.

This doesn't make sense to me. Are you saying that somehow ending my remote start will prevent a hood from opening on the freeway?

Even if it shuts off remote start, and I put something in the frunk, and I don't close it all the way, the car will still start and drive with the frunk unlatched. All my cars will start with the key with a partially latched or even open hood.
