Stupid/noob question
Can all the modules be updated OTA? I remember seeing in other threads that several TSB/SSMs require module updates and the dealership needs to connect the 12V battery. Also one of the modules require recalibration.

How would the OTA updates work to bypass these restrictions?
No such thing as a stupid question.

From what they’ve said almost every module can be updated OTA. I believe only ones that can’t are ones that have to do with vehicle charging, because the car would need to specifically be NOT charging and then they plug it in to a 12v “shore power” source to allow it to be completely off while updating. Someone did it themselves and they said the car was pulling a lot from the 12v power supply.

The charging modules are OTA capable. There is a battery energy module that cannot, but the actual charging ones can. I think the Energy module is the one that actually controls power delivery to the motors.

Modules that cannot get OTA's:
ACM (Audio Control Module), BCMC (Body Control Module C, or battery junction box/fuse box under hood), BECMB (Battery energy control module B), DSP (Digital Sound Processor), GSM (Gear shift module), OCS (occupant classification system/passenger seat airbag sensor), RGTM (rear gate/trunk module), and the WACM (wireless phone charger)

No. I’m too lazy to find it, but I believe @breeves002 published a list of each module and what type of update it did and whether it was OTA capable.

For the ones that are not, how will we get the updates since dealers won't update it without a present issue?

Like all cars, the bulletins and subsequent updates only apply if you have the issue or else there isn't a reason to update it. You can always just make a list of bulletins and say I'm having the problems from these bulletins, I made it easy for you, please do the updates.

How do I get up system to update? I’ve scheduled it and nothing changes. I’m still on 1.6.0 and I have auto updates set.

You just have to wait for your number to come up in the queue

What are the chances that one or more of the previous DTCs is preventing the OTA from hitting my/our vehicles?

None of the DTCs are currently active. Should I go ahead and clear them? My logic is that if there is truly an issue with a module, it will present itself again. Should I treat this differently?

My car always has some DTC's showing. Hasn't stopped my car from receiving anything.

You won’t. Unless you choose to pay your dealer to update the module.

I believe they have to be reproducible or logged in the car.

Really? I'm pretty sure most bulletins related to software updates are "Customer states XYZ problem" and they check. Especially because some bulletins aren't easy to reproduce or are intermittent. Its usually easier for the shop to just do the update then take it out on test drives or mess with it to try and get it to do it again.

Its definitely a YMMV scenario. Some dealers will just do it. But most I've encountered won't unless whatever you tell them the issue is, matches a TSB. Some TSB's even require a customer complaint, plus specific DTC's present to qualify.
