Dropped my car off Tuesday for the 22B08 CSP that the dealer actually called and scheduled. When I got there the 21G01 update was also listed on the work order. I drove home in the Explorer XLT loaner and have been waiting patiently for a phone call. I finally gave up and called a few minutes ago and was told "The tech is having a hard time running that program. He's tried it a couple times and he's talked to the hotline. Can we keep it through tomorrow?" I told him to keep it until it's fixed, however long that takes. I can see from the Securialerts where the door has been opened a few times each day but only for small windows of time. It was last opened at 1:08 today.
Mike, if you can see what their problem is and can offer any advice, it would be appreciated. My VIN is 3FMTK3R76MMA08773.
Thanks!

Updates don't come over wifi. Only the car's TCU when it's in a good cell coverage area for AT&T as in a large metropolitan area.

No idea why Ford tells people to connect their car to their home wifi. It accomplishes nothing.

Maybe that's what the original plan was but it's possible some security specialist figured out that cars could be hacked using a "man-in-the-middle" attack so they just decided to send them using the car's which is in direct contact with Ford's servers, and not the internet.

This is supposition but would fit the facts.

Mike
I used to have this opinion until yesterday. My car connected with my home wifi network and downloaded and updated to 2.6.0. The connected device was SYNC not TCU.
It had failed a few days earlier. On the failed attempt the connected device was TCU.
So, I don't know what the preferred process is supposed to be. My EAP person did mention that they now can push OTA updates.

I understand. Your TCU is always on whether you're at home or driving around. So your update could have come through your TCU. What makes you so sure it came over wifi?

I'm assuming you live in an area with good AT&T coverage?

I recommend that the next thing they do is the PCM and SOBDMC and then attempt the APIM and IPC next. There may be another GWM or TCU update pop up and those should always be done before doing anything else when they occur. It's in the instructions.

I've attached the 21P22 instructions as well as the 21G01 BlueCruise updated instructions.

Thanks for checking! I sent this info. on to the service writer to give to the tech working on the car. He seemed receptive to it but who knows, right?
Thanks again.

Update: Didn't here anything back on Friday. Called Saturday and even though there webpage says the service dept. is open until 1:00 the receptionist said no one was there at 11:00AM. This is what I'm dealing with.

Yes, we have AT&T coverage. But I watched the network monitor and saw the connected SYNC downloading data via my home wifi network. I see that other folks have received OTAs on residential wifi. I'm with you, maybe OTAs are working as originally promised.

So they did the Gearshift module update and then did a bit of research in PTS and ended up doing a PMI on your Gateway module. But when they did it they said "yes" when asked if the original module was installed. While technically correct, if the idea is to erase the current configuration and force a reload to correct an issue the answer should have been "no". This would have forced the configuation to be reset.

As you can see below they did a "Configuration" of your Driver Status Monitor Camera. And it failed. And they didn't retry it or attempt to do a PMI instead. But just gave you the car back. This was the last thing they did before returning your car to you.

In broad terms a PMI procedure is used to program setting in a module as if a defective module had been replaced in the car with a good one. A Configuration is simply rewriting the configuration of a module that may have bad settings and needs the settings restored to the correct ones.

But quite often a PMI is done on a module to force the update to be redone due to some sort of corruption in the data.

Even if the module itself is not actually being replaced. Think of it as a "master reset" of the module with data configuration re-downloaded from the Ford server.

So if they want to do a PMI of the CMR, which I would recommend they do, they should do that and select "no" when they are asked if the original module is installed. This will force a reload to the correct data.

Oh, and they still haven't updated your RFA, HVAC, and DSP.

Mike
Thank you! The service coordinator said they will try to follow the procedure, I'll update tomorrow.

Can someone check my VIN: WF0TK1EM5MMA28531, when I run the scriptible I can see
aggregateStatus: "failure". I have no 1.7.1 features..
Im going to have my car in for 21C22 and 22B10 next friday. Is there anything I should ask for to be able to get 1.7.1 update as well?
Encourage them to do all the updates. I went from 1.6 on the 22B10 to 2.8.3 and have been blue cruising since getting it back (only a couple of days).
Took 3.5 days for mine, some are saying 2.5 days. It will take time. Mine failed after one 6 hour install so set it back a day. Be patient, let them learn and get it to you. It will feel different as well, smoother I feel, but then I did have an Escape as a loaner.

You should be able to ask for them to do CSP 21P22 updates and then ask if they will do the rest of them so that you'll be up-to-date.

Well, after failing the 1.7.1 update on 10/14/21 and being stuck in limbo for 7.5 months, I was surprised to find that my FE successfully upgraded 1.7.1 this afternoon on its own. We'll see if other Power Ups follow, crossing fingers...

Dealership just called and said they tried to follow the guidelines above but can't get it to work, not sure what to do anymore.

Well then they need to get an engineer involved. The have a phone number they can call to get an engineer onsite to fix the problem if need be.

Yes, insist on getting a Ford Engineer on site. They will work with Dearborn, if necessary, to get your Mach-e updated. Once I got one onsite for mine, it was fixed within 2 days. I don't understand why dealerships don't push for this help. It is a great way for them to get extra training, tips and understanding the procedures.
