there are people in the other thread still being told 1.4.0 is up to date for them
You fo understand that 1.4 and 1.6 can be downloaded and installed in either order, right? There are people who got 1.6 first then 1.4

It’s a “nice to have” update using systems that have a user base which is increasing exponentially with each deployment being installed on the software running a 4500lb machine capable of partial autonomy in complex driving environment where safety can not be compromised. I get that it’s disappointing not to get it the same day as everybody else but I also think Ford choosing to be ultra conservative to ensure this is done right is not anywhere near the realm of “unacceptable”.
BlueCruise is shipping on GT’s. That means they have a stable, safe build. In the past month, how many Mach-E’s have crashed under the control of BlueCruise? That should be shipped to everyone by now. As for power up 1.4, 1.6, and 1.7.1, they haven’t been near anything critical to vehicle operation yet. There is no reason to take 6 weeks to update all vehicles to a new update. If a potential issue is unnoticed within 3-5 days, it is either very subtle (so much so that it shouldn’t stop them from shipping), or their test group is too small to be counted on to give timely feedback on bugs.
Which is it?

It’s been days of checking multiple times a day for 1.7.1 and my MME still says it’s up to date on 1.6.0. Some people here say they’re still stuck on 1.4.0! The FordPass app literally says “Connect your Mach-e to WiFi and you can get updates as soon as they’re available!” No, @Ford Motor Company , I can’t, because your screwed up software development won’t give it to me. I’m sure enjoying watching others use new features though.

I should have just bought a Tesla. And I HATE Tesla.
FYI.

Ford never releases OTA software updates to all vehicles that are available for said update at the same time.

This has been true every since SYNC 3 was introduced.

Just remain patient and your VIN# will get it’s notice for the update.

I agree that they need to do a better job of rolling out updates. It seems if some people are still on 1.4 (even if they got it after 1.6), everyone needs to come up to 1.7 before some 1.7 builds get updated to 1.7.1 (unless 1.7 had some critical problem that had to get fixed ASAP).

Otherwise, the implementation seems poor - 1.7 fixed bugs over 1.4/1.6. Why should those 1.4/1.6 users still be living with their old bugs while the company is spending resources on updating an already improved version (1.7) to an even better build (1.7.1), while leaving some users stuck on the now out of date builds (1.4/1.6).

Hopefully it is just a growing pain that Ford will be able to resolve in time.

I agree that we all want high quality OTA updates quickly and at low cost. Few people truly want a random chance at receiving a high quality update, or frequent defective updates, or ongoing costs.

In your original post you stated that you should have bought a Tesla. I think you're suggesting that since their updates are (often) deliverable to all customers at the same time, it is the superior vehicle for your needs.

I find it very unlikely that (a) the delivery pacing of OTA updates makes the other vehicle superior, or (b) that receipt of Power Up 1.7.1 in September 2021 was a requirement for my continued satisfaction in my choice of my Mustang Mach-E versus competing options. But to each their own, I guess.
Also, Tesla RARELY updates all cars at the same time. They follow a similar rollout pattern to what cloud software and Website providers do.

I'll use some version numbers to illustrate.

2021.32 - First distributed version of Release Year 2021 Week 32. Small percentage of cars.

2021.32.1 -(Normally) Bug fixes of the features in this release found and reported in those cars with 2021.32. Update and add a few more cars

2021.32.2-4 (Likely privately rolled out to developers and Early Access Program cars)

2021.32.5 - Bug fixes of prior 2021.32.x versions, more cars added depending on the amount of bugs (more bugs, less cars)

Seems Ford is doing the right thing here without knowing more about their dev teams.

For Tesla, I use this site to track actual deployments in the community of cars that subscribe to TeslaFi.com

I don't really get the rush to get 1.7.1. Hell I'm on 1.4. I didn't realize a lot of people wanted to play tic tac toe on their MME. Or scribble notes.
Right? If people are getting this bent out of shape about not yet having these small updates, just wait for the tantrums when people start getting updates that give increased range, remote frunk opening, or BlueCruise.

I think what's missing here is an understanding that early adopters want to be...well...early adopters. I chose this car in part because I want to test the latest and greatest, give me the option to force the update. Will 99% of users choose this option? No. Will the ones who want to be early adopters and who are happy to test software and provide feedback? Yes.

Google screwed this up with the Pixel line with software updates for the longest time, and now has a similar system (they'll roll it out slowly, but if you click "check for updates", it authorizes your phone and you get the latest and greatest). I think that's all this user is asking for and, quite frankly, it's not unreasonable.

By the way: I love this car, would recommend it to my friends, but I also agree that I understood we'd be getting far more OTA than we have by now. I still have major PAAK issues and my Sync 4 is slow on boot. 8 months in, I would have liked to see more progress.

Speaking of which, I have a major road trip next weekend. If I had BlueCruise for that, it would be awesome (and, perhaps convince a few friends to look into an updated electric car), but...that's probably not going to happen.

I work in tech, I understand rolling OTAs out in a paced method. But that pace should be measured in days, not weeks. Given that there are people on 1.4, I’m not at all confident I’ll see 1.7.1 any time soon.

Yes, I’m an early adopter, but one of the features advertised by Ford (and still misleadingly referenced in the app) is the ability to get the latest software immediately). It’s one of the reasons I felt comfortable getting an MME over a M3, MY, or a VW. They aren’t making good so far.
Many got 1.4 after 1.6...
