I'm transitioning from 2022 GT with performance upgrade to 2025 GT without upgrade. The dealer told me that since it's only software, I can pay for the upgrade and then download it as a software update. Has anyone tried this? (Also I thought this would be of interest to GT owners who don't have the upgrade).

The performance upgrade is software based on all '24 & '25 Mach-E's. It is an option on all GT's except the Rally where it is standard. Some dealers add the PU when they order GT's so that it is already on the car but if not, you can purchase the upgrade from Ford. That is what we have been doing now for over a year.

The only real difference in purchasing the PU after the car was shipped to the dealer vs. the car being shipped with it is that you can finance the $995 if it's on the car's window sticker. A few people have posted their experience with the PU via OTA on their 2024s and these were all positive that I recall. 😁🐩

I don’t have the PU and I’m totally fine without it. More than fast enough for me.

Although I wonder if the PU might actually reduce front wheel spin under hard acceleration? It currently seems like the front has way more power than it can put down. But if the PU provides more shove the to rear then maybe the increased acceleration would be more matched to the front motor output. 🤔

Thank you @HuntingPudel .

@E90alex you may want to check your tires? Once I changed to the Continental Extreme Contact as recommended here all spinning stopped on mine.

Not that it matters but the 22 GT did not have the option for the performance upgrade. So it should basically be the same as the 2025 GT performance-wise without PU Unless I am missing something. Unless you are referring to the GTPE which was a bit quicker than the GT but both had the 5 second limitation that the PU eliminates.

For reference, here are the performance numbers:

All GT's (all years) have 480 HP
'21-'23 GT 600 lb-ft torque, '21-'23 GTPE 634 lb-ft torque
'24-'25 GT 600 lb-ft torque, with performance upgrade 700 lb-ft torque

Probably. Still on the factory Contental all seasons. It’s a lease so I’m not in a rush to spend money on new tires until they are completely worn out.

Ford quotes 600 lb-ft for 24-25 GT without PU. The PU adds 100 lb-ft to make it 700.

I know it’s off topic, apologies. Mine was a lease as well. it was not aligned so at 10k miles the tires were terrible. Once I replaced them (and aligned!) I fell in love with the car again. Now I think I will keep my old tires on the new car, they can have the stock ones, a gift from me.

I installed the PU on my 24 after buying the car without it and have been running summer max performance Pirelli tires. No spinning. They do squeal occasionally when I floor it from a standstill. Night and day difference. I would definitely do it.

Yep! Summer tires don't spin, especially the Pirelli's and probably why Ford offers them as an option if one wants maximum performance from their GT. I'm one of those and only run summer tires during the warm seasons (I also have the PU on my Mach-E).

The Performance Upgrade did not eliminate the 5 second limit. Just being a GT of 2024 or newer vintage does. 😁🐩
