I still haven't gotten OTA #2.

For me OTA#1 Happened just randomly while I was out for errands. But how have people been getting this one? Do I need to be on wifi? Charging? Do I have to set an update schedule?

I have Illinipony connected to the Internet; was charging the night it updated and my updates are scheduled for Monday nights.

After a couple days the only thing I noticed is the door locks actually work from the outside of the car. Even with the key fob the lock button on the door would either do nothing, or would be extremely delayed (pre OTA #2). Now it appears to work pretty much every time. This could also be a coincidence as I don't usually manually lock the car.

This is a frequent excuse. I’m not a programmer so I could be completely off base, but some of these bugs seem easy to fix without overhauling the entire interface, and, regardless, would be gated off from impacted mechanical operation.

For example, fixing the bug that refuses to retain the Alarm Interior Motion Sensors: Off setting should be super easy, right? Super aggravating for some of us, super easy to fix, been reported for over two months, and nothing. Always an excuse (not from Ford - we don’t get anything from Ford - but from other earnest, well-meaning posters on this forum).

I will concede that the FordPass problems are probably more complicated. I suspect that one culprit is that car is not communicating properly, quickly and frequently enough, with Ford’s servers. Or it is a problem with Ford’s servers.
I am not a software engineer, but as an industrial maintenance electrician I have spent time inside the programming of complex systems. We are forever tinkering with programs in an effort to make a machine run faster, or produce a better part, and often making one small change, in one part of the program, can have unintended consequences in a different part of the program. Especially with a system architecture like this where there are several processors running their own program that all need to also work together. And most of the systems I’ve worked in had very little to do with human safety.

These two statements seem to be at odds with each other.
They’re only at odds with each other if you omit what I said in the middle. The entire quote: “I’m not a programmer so I could be completely off base, but some of these bugs seem easy to fix….”

Seems odd, after I was careful to acknowledge my possible ignorance, to call me out for…. my possible ignorance? Dunno.

Now, I could again be completely off base, but it seems like if it’s hard for Ford software engineers to pinpoint why a setting like Alarm Interior Motion Sensors: Off refuses to stick, maybe that’s a problem in and of itself?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply ignorance. Just trying to discourage the practice of speculating that things are easy when we really have no idea if something is easy or hard.

You didn’t imply ignorance. I expressly copped to that possibility. It was just a weird kind of gotcha.

I would imagine this would be easy to pinpoint. IF it occurred in all cases of even the majority of cases.

As already pointed out if it occurred infrequently and cannot be duplicated easily, it becomes much more difficult to fix.

There's no reason to believe that it hasn't been pinpointed. Ford has already released a bulletin saying that an OTA update will fix the issue of some settings not sticking. I would be surprised if that update doesn't fix this issue.

Agreed, but the general comment stands. Many issues that seem minor and easy are not widespread making them difficult to address. Also, some issues, if limited to certain individuals versus impacting everyone would likely be assigned a lower priority when it comes to fixing.

Of course if I had these types of issues that were bugging me, I might just go to the dealer and have them flash any updates available.

I agree. And the fact that Ford has sent engineers to customers' houses to get to the bottom of some of the issues that they couldn't easily reproduce internally is impressive to me.
