you need to tap in the input area - two pics to show the sequence:
1712451358990-ia.webp

then the keyboard should show up:
1712451462802-z2.webp

the important part of the repeated brake presses is to ONLY press the brake; do not also push the start button. the repeated brake presses is the trigger.

definitely a good idea to test it to make sure you know how it works and what to do if there are hiccups.
That worked had to touch in the middle between "enter your"

When I first went out to test again for what you are saying. I took my phone with me to record what I was doing. Quickly realized that won't work because my phone is the paak. Lol

I have simply stopped using PaaK. It would be nice if it could be as reliable as the Tesla option seems to be. Just saying...

Coming up on 2 years of ownership now and PaaK inconsistency continues to be my biggest gripe with the car. At first it was the suspension stiffness, but over time that’s seemed to soften, or I’ve gotten used to - probably both. But PaaK, man… I’d say it works over 90% of the time, but that’s the problem - it works often enough that you start to trust it, so when it fails, it’s often at a really inconvenient time. I’ve had the same issues - sometimes you can just pull out your phone and start it with the app, but if that fails, you need to use the on screen password - and the keyboard for that doesn’t always show up consistently, for some reason? Ford really needs to fix this.

Did you recently get the software update to fix blue cruise?? Or take it to the dealership to do a software update??
I just got back from the dealership and they did do a software update..but this happened prior to that.

Had this happen twice, once was about a 10 min walk back home to get keys. Second time son brought me keys, needless to say anything longer than 15-20 mins away I have keys with me. I really wish ford did something better than a fob. At the end of the day if is a piece of software for $60,000 wrapped in leather glass and steel. While not perfect I get it by it is becoming death of a 1,000 paper cuts. I get an error half the time mine starts while still in park, basically can’t move the seat while vehicle is in motion.

It amazes me that it has to happen to people more than once before they just hide a fob in the car. It only takes a minute to remove the battery and find a good hiding spot.

Instead of removing the battery, why not just wrap the fob in aluminum foil and hide it?

You can do that too, but that requires you to have aluminum foil handy and do some testing to make sure that the signal is being blocked adequately. You can also purchase a faraday bag or case. Removing the battery is easy and doesn't require you to have anything additional.

I use PAAK almost exclusively, and every few months I'll be in a situation where my phone battery dies. I actually kind of appreciate having the opportunity to regularly test that the passcode process works. The following has been 100% reliable for me: unlock and access the car using the door pillar pin code. Press brake pedal and then start button. Wait for passcode entry screen to appear, tap the text box to bring up the keyboard, then (in my case) make sure to click the "shift" button to workaround Ford's software bug that defaults the first letter of a password entry to uppercase. On trips far from home I'll bring the fob out of an abundance of caution, and in case the car needs to be towed to a dealer for some reason.

I wonder if people who are struggling with this are using a different process? I see mentions of using the app to access and/or start the car, which I've never done in this situation.

Turning off Bluetooth disables PAAK.

When PAAK doesn’t work to start the car, I take it out of my pocket and it resolves 90% of the time. For the other 10% I open the app.

It's the same process, but on rare occasions the car simply doesn't prompt for the passcode. I've never had the issue personally, but plenty of people have. You also never know when you might need a surprise tow or somebody has to drive you to the emergency room. A hidden fob in the car solves all of that.

Thanks. The emergency room scenario is one that I don't really understand, but I agree with towing.

My wife had to take me to the emergency room a few months ago while we were out in the MME. She ended up staying with me, but if I was there much longer, she would have left with the car. It was very nice knowing there was a fob hidden and available for her to use if needed.

Ahh, got it, thanks. I was thinking about the trip TO the hospital.

I will try this today. But in my case, phone was not dead, and was communicating with BT, so I was able to open the car with the phone and roll windows down, etc.
