Okay great to know. Thank you so much. One more question, if you use your phone as a key and lets say your phone dies. Would the way to get in the car be using the door key code buttons and then the code you type in to start up on the screen?
Yes.

Is it normal for the front trunk to unlock when typing in the door key code also?
Doesn't seem normal but maybe it is on the newer Mach Es. Those of us with early Mach Es can't open the frunk except via the manual pull behind the driver's side door.

Historically with the ford door codes after you enter the code you hit another key and can open windows, trunk, so frunk makes sense.

And regarding key, I have not carried one in 5 months, just phone, we took the car on a weeks vacation without a key, yes I did have to leave my dad my phone when he needed to borrow it.

I did order a faraday bag to put my fob in and will leave that in the armrest. But as mentioned you can also assign a password to use to start the car with no key or phone.

As a newbie like you I suggest if you use the PAAK you setup your door code and your backup passcode. Then while you are at home, put your phone and key far far away inside the house. Hold the bottom two buttons on your door pillar. 7-8 and 9-0, this will lock the car.

Now try to get in and start the car. While I have only had to use the backup passcode to start my car once I use the door pillar all the time to get in if the PAAK is slow.

If you run into issues with the PAAK force the FordPass app closed and open it back up. Typically resolved 98.4% of issues.

Good Luck and Congrats!

The only things the physical key can do that PaaK can't do are:

1. Allow a new PaaK to be created
2. Program a new physical key into the car (provided you have two working physical keys)
3. Set off the alarm
4. Have its battery replaced pretty easily (but your phone's battery is much easier to recharge, so there is that)

Did I miss anything? ??‍♂?

Oh ok, I mean release. So it should not be releasing when I type that door code in right? Because when I tried to use that code the frunk popped up but the door stayed locked..
It will open if you press the 7-8 key after entering your code.

You should blow your salesperson away with a real PAAK demo. “Look Bob, no fob!”

No. The door code doesn't release (open) the frunk.
I believe that some of the newer ones do. But you have to enter the door code and another number. The same can be done for the rear hatch and to open all doors. Check your manual.

One more thing I do, is once a month, I test my backup door and start codes on the screen to validate they still work. Just a peace of mind so if I ever need to use them when away from the house and no fob, I can trust I can get the car to drive home.

"You need the key to fully start up the vehicle. Even if you remote start it there’s a security system that won’t allow you to put it in drive. You’re phone can be used to unlock find charging stations and help locate your car but the key is necessary for driving. They have a key slot to keep the key in the center glove box but that’s intended for the door key pad code"

this is the message I received and yeah I agree it makes no sense. Ugh. Oh well. Guess I am on my own with the help of my forum friends :D

The question was if the code should open the frunk. The code should only unlock the vehicle, nothing more, nothing less. There are additional button presses after entering the correct code which do other things such as opening the frunk, but that wasn't the question.

I was actually the person on this forum that originally tested and reported on how to open the frunk (@generaltso was my instructor) with the keypad in October of last year. That thread is here.

Most dealers and sales people are not going to know much about a brand new car. And even after 2 years not many MMEs have been delivered. I read through the owners manual twice before I ordered the mme. and yes I knew alot more about the mache than the sales rep. And I like our rep. It will be interesting to see how much he's picked up on the Mach e when we get it in early mid sept. We've been trading information.

And this forum has been a wealth of information. Some of the members are quite well experienced with the features of the MME. Thanks to them for sharing.

I am worried I am getting lots of misinformation, I just picked up the car yesterday. I was told to enter the door key code I tried this assuming I could unlock the door if in emergency with it, but the front trunk flew open? Another quirk maybe I am not understanding.

So is there really no need to carry the physical car key then is that the consensus?

If you were trying the factory code that came with the car and has 7 numbers Just try the first 5 numbers. See if that works.

No need to carry physical with you if your PAAK is working. Many here will hide the FOB key somwhere in the car in a pouch that blocks the signal for reasons such as in case a master reset happens. I just take the battery out and put it in a ziplock bag.

This makes sense.. There were two codes on the card they gave us and I was trying the longer one which included those two numbers.. Thank you so much
