There is a backup code they have you set up for this exact situation. Type the code on the screen and boom car starts.
Ah, good to know. So you don't even need your key or your phone to drive the car then?

Technically no, but it would be quite a pain to type in your password EVERY time you drive vs just having your phone in your pocket and go
So do you mean technically yes? Is this the same b/u passcode that we created that also opens the door?

Different code on door and car. The door requires a 5 digit numeric pin, the car at least 8 characheters alpha/numeric

Let's get technical and say technically you don't need your phone as long as you have the passcode programmed. It's just gonna be a PITA every time you start the car with the code. Also you get an email every time the code is used to start the car.

Related question on where to stash a faraday bag: I never carry a fob and always use PAAK and I use the door code/remote start functionality if my phone is dead or if I don't want to bring it. I also use an Apple Watch w/ cellular so I often don't want to lug the phone just to start the car. However, two days ago and for no reason, my car was removed from Ford Pass and I lost PAAK and the remote start code; I was stranded (ok at home but it could have been a lot worse). The door code held but it took a full day to reauthorize the car into Ford Pass and get PAAK working again. I can no longer rely on that PAAK & Remote code will always be available to me. Where are a few good places to stash the key fob in a faraday bag? ?
Being the child of a hyper-paranoid master locksmith and having worked for security consultants, nowhere is good to stash a key other than on your person or in a place totally unrelated to the object that the key unlocks. I keep my spare key locked in my gun safe. The key that is linked to my profile is locked in a filing cabinet (It goes into foil and comes with me if I go more than 20 miles from home). ??‍♂?

Technically, yes you are correct that no you do not need the phone. But I do not recommend putting yourself in this situation voluntarily.

I unwittingly answered my own question this afternoon. I went to work and then realized I had forgotten to take my FOB. Before leaving work I successfully remote started to cool the car off, and when I went to the car it wouldn’t unlock. I put in the door passcode and got in the car, hit the start button and got the message to put in my password. I put in the door code and of course it didn’t work. Before searching my phone for the pw I shut down and restarted the FP app and the car started up after 10 seconds or so. Agree, driving without either a PAAK or the FOB isn’t optimal, but good to know it’s doable in a pinch.

That is secure. ?? I think the chances of someone finding a black faraday bag under my rear seat is pretty minimal. Plus my car spends most of the time in my garage or on a Air Force Base. I just don't like to carry the fob and PaaK, FP, and the B/U code are not 100% reliable.

Why isn’t the back up code 100% reliable? Do you mean remembering the code isn’t 100% reliable, as I clearly demonstrated today? Or have there been times when someone put in the correct code and still couldn’t drive?

Upon occasion, the field to input your backup start code won’t appear.

It can often take time for the system to bring up the backup code. There have been instances where the backup code/FP/PaaK gets wiped and you are stuck until you get a fob.

Ford Pass, for no know reason, disassociated my car and paak was lost with the remote start code. I don’t know how they are linked but my remote code no longer worked. It took 24 hours to reauthorize my car request and set up paak. The problem was with an action within ford pass but bottom line it created a reliability problem for me.

When the dealer help me set up my PAAK he skipped the part where you add a back up code. Can I add it after it has been set up? I have tried but when it ask me to choose a phone my doesn’t show up.
