A lot of people have had trouble over the years with the Qi charger and phones overheating. If your phone has magsafe, some people have had luck putting a magsafe ring in the right place so that the phone stays properly centered on the charger.

I am an iOS guy, and found that my phone seriously overheated on the charger when wireless CarPlay was activated. I finally just got a magsafe charger that attaches to the center screen and sticks out to the left of the screen. I ran the wire down the side of the screen, and it plugs into the USB port below the screen.

I have a different one that I pieced together, but it's basically this: https://www.amazon.com/MaserWeller-...Inch-Compatible/dp/B0GGZYBRMJ/ref=sr_1_5_sspa

I found the built-in Qi charger on my '23 Premium to be junk. I'm told others have had better luck, but regardless of the quality of the unit it can be difficult to find the proper placement of the phone to avoid the overheating issue.

I'm unsure if your phone is compatible with MagSafe - some phones require a case to be used with the magnet built in. If yours will work, and you can afford a $100 accessory, I highly recommend the aftermarket dual MagSafe charger tray by Twraps: https://twraps.com/es/products/magsafe-compatible-dual-wireless-charger-for-mustang-mach-e

*I'm not affiliated with Twraps in any way other than being a customer. I just like the product. Correct phone placement every time, no sliding around, no overheating issues.

Wireless charging heats up the device simply by the way it works. On longer trips I use a wired connection.
You would not have that issue with the TWRAPS dual wireless charger if you have a MagSafe phone.

Only if the wireless charging coils on the charger and device are misaligned. The whole point of MagSafe is to ensure proper alignment so that almost all charging energy goes into the device's battery instead of wasted as heat.* I've driven from Central Coast California to Portland, Oregon several times with my phone resting on my Twraps charger, using CarPlay the whole way, and the phone is only slightly warmer than the car's interior temp at any point in the trip.

*Before I'm "corrected," I know there's no such thing as 100% efficient, lossless charging, even in wired connections. But a properly aligned wireless charging setup for a modern phone should never generate enough waste heat to bring the device more than a few degrees above the ambient temperature.

The wireless charge plate built into the car worked just fine with my older phone that had no camera bump. When I got a newer model with a bump, the phone absolutely needed to be aligned correctly with the charge plate but would still generate heat. The plate just doesn’t work well with phones that have camera bumps. I added a laptop MagSafe phone charger to my 2021 and to my 2024. The one I bought most recently is this one. https://a.co/d/0adJLLpP 😁🐩

Yep!

That’s fairly standard.

Wireless charger was always garbage so never used it after my iPhone first shut down to cool.

Yes… of all the decontenting that Ford has done, it’s weird that the wireless charger has stayed around. I tried it once, overheated the phone and now I live a corded life.
Ford did move it to the (optional on Select and Premium trims) Technology Package for 2026...
I keep an Iottie Easy One Touch Wireless as well as a GOOD USB-C to USB-C cable in mine, just in case (though my S24+ usually just stays in my pocket)

I may l
I second the TWRAPS dual charger. Best interior accessory for the Mach-E.
Wonder if they'll come out with a Qi2 version.
My S24+ is compatible with a MagSafe charging case but is limited to 7.5 charging speeds on a Magsafe charger.

A wireless charging phone / case that aligns the coils magnetically is really critical. But even with that, the standard charger ... sucks. I also got the TWRAPS unit, and it is much better. Added bonus, it charges two phones without issue.
Google Maps will eventually state something like "Turning 3D Buildings Off, Phone is too hot". Waze never causes an issue.
If I also stream music from the phone while using it for navigating and (mandatory at this point) charging it, it's gonna get too hot. Choices here are use a wired connection, or use music from a source that doesn't go through your phone (FM, Sirius, examples)
