I also have a pixel 8 pro. I never toss it on the wireless charger cause it does get hot. I have a work iPhone too. Gets warm as well. Not as hot. I may need to buy the twraps charger. Honestly most of the time I still plug in because wireless charging is so slow.

This isn't a "this car" issue. Watch any car review they complain about the wireless phone chargers except in teslas.
Yes the wireless charging is SLOW! but I like the Twraps. It looks nice (IMO) and with the magnet, your phone is pretty secure. I haven't noticed any increase in charging speed though. Just seems to keep the phone alive while using AA and Google maps.

Wondering if there is different hardware out there, or generations of it. I got mine initially when it came out last October on AT&T. When did you get yours and what network are you on?
I also got my pixel soon after its release. I have Spectrum which runs off of Verizon towers. I can't see where it would make any difference but then again, WTH do I know???

HI all - I know there have been many threads about how wireless charging heats the phone and can cause a thermal warning which stops the charging from working altogether, but I want to hear specifically from other Pixel 8 Pro users whether running Wireless Android Auto your phone runs hot while not charging? There are some reddit posts suggesting that you can get a warranty replacement from Google and it may cure some of the heating issues using AA. So I'm curious whether anyone with a MME is able to run their P8P without much of an issue? If so, may be worth a try.

Thanks for weighing in!
Two days with the P8P, and it doesn't give an overheat warning while charging in the MachE.

IMHO the only definition of "overheating" or "excessively hot" is when you get the warning from the phone.

Pixel 7 Pro here... I've seen the overheating warning at least once. It'll show up on the SYNC display if you have AA up on the screen. The message says something like "try moving your phone to a cooler location." I held it over the air vent for awhile and it was fine. Plugging it in helps tremendously, too.

Just wanted to point out that phone overheat issues depend on a lot of factors with one of the big ones being how hot it is in the cabin. On hotter days in Phoenix, if the vehicle was parked in the sun, then wireless phone charging is not gonna work out. I imagine P8P users would have the same experience when their cabins are similarly hot.

Dumb question.....
Are you able to shut off wireless AA and use the USB port for wired AA?

If you can, does it reduce the lag?

Pixel 8 Pro on Verizon. It gets warm when on the wireless charger + AA, but so far no overheating events. Usually running GMaps + YouTube Music. 10% of the time AA wireless doesn't connect to the car and I have to plug into USB or reboot the phone, but this is not due to heat. It is due to AA + Ford not playing nice and each one can blame the other.

After about a week, no overheating events, but it's also been a cool week here.

When I get an overheat, I usually hold against my skin. Skin conducts heat really well, and, if I'm wearing shorts, there's a large patch right by where I stash my phone :p
