Received my update yesterday, and it sucks.

I always wondered if the IPC and touchscreen design teams at Ford are totally different. I appreciate(d) the nuanced details of the IPC animations and overall pleasant visual design. In contrast, the touchscreen is a cluttered and inconsistent mess. It would be hard to believe that the same people designed both of these UIs.

So here we are with a head-scratching and frustrating design decision that mostly eliminates the animations and replaces the most useful piece of data (speed) on the most prominent section of the IPC, with a static picture of a car that provides zero value.

I guess the touchscreen team is now making the IPC design decisions. Sadly.

Yeah, I don't honestly care about the speedo placement, it's whatever, very few gas cars have a centered speedometer. The issue is the weird insistence on placing a car there that does nothing 90% of the time for some people, and entirely hiding the nav directions until you're less than 0.3 miles from a turn.

they must have been offended by the animations that move everything around when you start blue cruise. but i kind of liked that as it catches the eye and you know for sure that cruise control is starting.

i just got the update last night, will have to see how stupid it looks. might leave voice feedback in the car. that's probably the only way that they would pay attention to feedback, i think.

For those complaining about the speedometer in 6.8... Imagine driving a tesla if you think this placement is bad..
The Tesla vehicles without an IPC are a nonstarter for me. Of the remaining, the MX is a nonstarter for other reasons.

I thought I would hate the single display in the MY I rented, but it was fine. It didn't bother me at all in actual use.

Maybe it wasn't a design decision, and just maybe, the change was made for another reason. I think it will revert to previous behavior in a future update.

That said, I never used the speedometer that way anyway as I always have lane centering and (almost always) ACC active. So I don't care either way.

Maybe you're right!? Ford is pretty tight lipped about their software decisions and their release notes are worthless, so I suppose we'll just wait and see. Anyway, I've added my opinion. Probably not worth complaining any further about this relatively minor thing (in the grand scheme of things) that I have zero control over.

I imagine in a Tesla, the driver can just use voice control, "How fast am I driving now" and we should defend the all-hallowed screen to the death.

How dare you question the all-knowing wisdom of the bulletproof-window-designing autistic god-king.

Got my update last night. The new placement of the speedometer not only looks awful .... its "a little" dangerous. With my height (5'8") and seat position the left and right side of the display are obscured by the steering wheel. While the new speedometer location is not fully covered - it is partially and gets worse if I move the seat higher or move my head right or lean to the right.

Someone mentioned Tesla's speedometer location as a "could be worse" comment. Well, I'll take that over this ... because at least I can see it!

Glad I caught this post before it made it to my car. What an awful UI change. Disabling auto updates till it’s sorted out.

@Ford Motor Company
Good for you! Wish I would have known. Never saw any talk about this being the new display.

Exactly. I'm the same height and this is my experience, too. I'll be submitting feedback twice a day to Ford.

No need to move the seat ... the steering wheel is height-adjustable.

I didn't realize there was a UI change on 6.8 because I normally leave lane-centering on -- so everything is where it always has been for me. But I can understand why those who don't use lane-centering would want the speed in the middle.

Can you alter the layout of the IPC with Forscan?

For me it's more, there is a useless, unmoving, unanimated doesn't-even-look-like-my car icon. If there were some actual real use of the icon, I'd get it, but it literally doesn't do anything :p
