Combining them would be ideal for sure, but also conveying that to the user in design would be key here. (Using a dynamic UI to take away the remote start button.) That way people don't need to "just know" that they don't need to use remote start after. You wouldn’t have to use remote start after, it will heat the cabin if you wait the full time and keep it warm for a while after it’s ready. You’d only use remote start if you wanted to leave before it was done and it would switch to cabin heat for a few minutes. So really just one simple button press to use unless you wanted to be more advanced with it.
A “one-time” departure time is another good idea that was suggested here. Because the departure times in the car and the cloud don’t sync reliably (still…), we need another option that doesn’t involve problematic data syncing so it just works.
Another thing I think needs to be considered is how often it would need to be used. Yes, here in the north, our winters are long and we would see a great benefit on the longer trips. However day to day short travels wouldn't need to use it. Those in more stable climates (CA comes to mind) may not need to use it at all. So having it directly on the main screen wouldn't make sense to me.
Frankly the entire FordPass app could use a re-design to bring more features and move menus around. Which could be on the way as they do seem to want to add more controls to it.
But yeah, there is a lot more to look at here to make it the best possible experience for everyone. Id be happy with a button buried elsewhere in the app honestly.
