'Precondition Now' Button

Would you still want a "Precondition Now" button if you had to wait 45 minutes or longer?

You wouldn’t have to use remote start after, it will heat the cabin if you wait the full time and keep it warm for a while after it’s ready. You’d only use remote start if you wanted to leave before it was done and it would switch to cabin heat for a few minutes. So really just one simple button press to use unless you wanted to be more advanced with it.

A “one-time” departure time is another good idea that was suggested here. Because the departure times in the car and the cloud don’t sync reliably (still…), we need another option that doesn’t involve problematic data syncing so it just works.
Combining them would be ideal for sure, but also conveying that to the user in design would be key here. (Using a dynamic UI to take away the remote start button.) That way people don't need to "just know" that they don't need to use remote start after.

Another thing I think needs to be considered is how often it would need to be used. Yes, here in the north, our winters are long and we would see a great benefit on the longer trips. However day to day short travels wouldn't need to use it. Those in more stable climates (CA comes to mind) may not need to use it at all. So having it directly on the main screen wouldn't make sense to me.

Frankly the entire FordPass app could use a re-design to bring more features and move menus around. Which could be on the way as they do seem to want to add more controls to it.

But yeah, there is a lot more to look at here to make it the best possible experience for everyone. Id be happy with a button buried elsewhere in the app honestly.

It takes me close to an hour to get ready to go so it would definitely be helpful for me. If I am having a speedy morning it seems like partway preconditioned is better than none at all.

I would use this continuously. When it’s -20°F, I never want to leave the house. But if I’m going to go grocery shopping, I could hit the button an hour before I leave the house. I work 2-3 random days of the week. I could set an alarm, get up, hit the button, shower, have coffee, brush my teeth, get dressed… yeah, leaving the house an hour after I hit the button is totally reasonable. Having preset departure times is probably nice if you have a preset life. How many have that these days?

Or we could just fire off your departure time from the app and the app deals with all that. No wait that don't work you need to go out to your car in -20 and set your departure time there.

Precondition != Cabin Conditioning.
If you want your cabin to be the right temp, remote start 5 minutes before you leave.

I've always thought that we needed a "Precondition Now" button on the car and I guess on the App. Ford would just need to give us some "ballpark" guidelines about how long it could take based on current temp of car.

Does Tesla have a precondition button?

Also in GA and garage kept. Cabin precondition never runs more than 15min. And it can be pretty darn hot in there after 15 min. As stated, have no idea the temp of the Battery. Not to mention, some of the population does not leave for work at a predetermined time so they can't "precondition".

#Ford, if your listening I would like climate control function on the App. A state like GA can see pretty significant temperature changes in a a day. It might be preset to warm the cabin in spring but being a warm afternoon; would prefer to cool the cabin.

So you have no idea when the session actually started, correct?

My charger tells me if the car is pulling juice, so I can clearly see that.
So the temps outside this morning was 49 degrees, garage was probably 58ish, my charger started charging 10 minutes prior to my departure time and in synch with the FordPass App. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, obviously we don't get as cold as some of you on the forum so a longer precondition time wasn't something I've ever experienced. I do think it would be nice to be able to start a precondition at the push of a button vs going in and altering scheduled departure times would be beneficial.

I believe 59 Is the precondition temp, so it didn't do any.

At scheduled departure time, the Ford Pass notification says something like "your cabin temperature is ready". It would be nice if they changed this to clarify that the battery temperature is optimal too. I'm assuming that's the case, but they just never updated the notification message when they introduced battery preconditioning?

Absolutely agree. Pre WFH life, I would have loved this feature to schedule departure times. Now my schedule is very inconsistent and scheduling departure times in advance is cumbersome. I dont mind the schedule feature, but it should have more options.

Yup - we gave up on trying to set departure times via the app a long time ago and just do it in the vehicle. At least our Mach-e is consistent if you do that. My Lightning still only pre-conditions ~30% of the time even if you set it in the vehicle.

Just need to remove the one-time departure time. We did this when charging at a hotel overnight. Set the departure time so that hotel electricity prepped the battery and cabin. Then later deleted the departure time.
The idea of a one-time departure time is that it auto-disables after it's used so that you do not have to manually disable it.

It would be great if this feature also sent a push notification when preconditioning is complete, and also if the precondition now button was also accessible on the in vehicle screen while driving... So I can get preconditioning benefit whole not using navigation.

I would absolutely use it!

We know Preconditioning is a good idea.

And we know a large fraction of owners who don't use their Mach-e on a fixed schedule- which is fundamentally required to take easy advantage of the existing Precondition process.

So seriously, why not a Precondition Now feature???

@Mach Lee - I love your mock-up, with the exception of deprecating the Charge to 100% funtion, which remains needed.
