Does the online buying process allow the use of credit card(s) to make a down payment? If so is there a limit to how much can be put on one card and will it allow multiple cards to be used? Thanks.

You can’t really buy online. You can start the process online, but the actual purchase is done at the dealer. The amount you can put on a credit card will be up to the dealer.

If you need to use a credit card to pay for a portion of a car, you probably shouldn’t be buying it.

Disregard if you’re trying to use credit cards for points/cash back.

I was able to use a credit card for the initial $500 deposit only.

Yeah using the card for convenience and for points, correct. I wouldn‘t want to revolve a debt like that for sure.

This page seems to suggest that the entire process can be done online: https://www.ford.com/buy/

Right... But it's not like buying a book from Amazon. You're buying a $40k+ automobile from one of your local area dealers, not from Ford. Ford.com can act as a lead generator, order configurator, order status board, and more... But in the end, you're arranging a sale from a local dealer.

Some local dealers are able to interact with you solely via email and web. But you have to seek out those that will do this... Contact your local dealers via email to get all your questions answered before you place any order with them.

When the vehicle arrives, the dealer can do paperwork online with you, and deliver the car to your home, if they agree to do so. (Again, just communicate your requests up front and get their commitments in writing.)

FWIW, I did as much of the purchase online as possible, but it wouldn't credit me for a California specific POS rebate so I chose the online option to send all of my paperwork to the dealer to finalize there. Which turned out to be useless and I had to do everything from scratch at the dealer.

My Ford dealer let me put $5,000 on a credit card, which was also the amount that my a BMW dealer also let me do for my previous two purchases.

My wife bought a 70K$ Range on her Amex. They said a lot of people were doing it for points etc.

I picked the car up today. The dealership allowed me to use 2 credit cards, one for $10k and one for $5k so I was pleased with that.
