Anyone get random navigation alerts?? It seems to happen whenever it wants. Sometimes it’s when I first turn on the car, other times it’s after I’ve sat in the car for a bit.

It does the three tones then displays the attached. I’ve also had it bring up that banner for a liquor store. I don’t drink and I think I’ve been inside one once my entire life lol

Also have never been too or asked for directions to this location either.

lol, it sounds like the car is suggesting that you start drinking. Either that or it thinks you drive like someone who frequents a liquor store. /s

Jk, but I have had it do that to me but for me it has always been a location I have been to before. Maybe the suggested store is near a location you have been and the Nav just used the liquor stores address instead of the place you actually visited.

There’s a setting in there somewhere for something like favorite place suggestions or something (I know, not real specific here). Turn it off. There mi even be 2 different settings. The car wants to out think you and guess where you’re going.

Go into the nav->settings; as mentioned there is a setting for "auto suggestions" or something like that (I don't remember what it is called). Turn it off and it will stop doing that.

Thanks, I found it just no idea why it does what its doing though. It's done the car wash place a 100 times, did the liquor store once. Maybe it knew I was having a long day lol

Another feature that might be good, but has to be disabled due to it not working correctly...

A few times the car has Just set a navigation destination when I start the car. I had not verified it I don’t think at the time.

I get a rare incorrect recommendation from the car; but mostly it's memorized my patterns and suggest (mostly correctly) the destination I am going to. The problem is I always use Waze on Car Play. Maybe the Car's Nav is jealous? Or your car just wants a Gin and tonic after driving with you? LOL

It is probably working VERY correctly - my guess is that those businesses are paying for google adwords or some other service, and that's why the car is bringing them up.

yes I get them, they're listed as "mytrends" and is something garmin sells to businesses so they pop up on nav and apparently completely randomly. You can turn the notifications off I haven't bothered, but they are annoying

It’s based entirely on your driving history (locations), not by seing sold to businesses. But it often picks the wrong business near those locations. Think about a strip mall or parking lot. Sometimes where you parked is closer to another business (or there are several in a multi-story complex), so it picked one seemingly at random.

I get a notification on weekdays for going to a local for-profit college. It’s very close to the preschool I’m actually going to (to drop my kid off). But i Understand why it suggests it.

You can see some of the trends identified for you under “Where to > MyTrends” and you can delete the ones you don’t like.

Has to be some other formula that accounts for this tho. Because, I only have two businesses that show up, a hair salon and appliance repair, both miles away from anywhere I've ever driven in this car.

Businesses DO sign up for this it's free. but that's why the businesses that come up are so random. https://smallbusiness.chron.com/list-business-gps-67435.htmll

mine kept suggesting a rental place, then it started suggesting a cleaning place. I've never been to either. I turned off all of the nav notification before I found this thread and it did solve the issue. Still weird. I am a software engineer and have seen a lot of weird things happen so few things rarely surprise me these days. My 2019 Caddy XT4 was loaded with bugs and errors. Caddy service was horrible. I usually went in with the TSB printed out to speed things up. That just made things even worse.

Years ago (over a decade, I think), there was a way for business to buy ads and highlighted map pins. Some from MSN data over-the-air services, and some from Garmin directly. However, that was for the suction cup ones in your window, and those agreements expired LONG ago (As did MSN service being entirely defunct). As for “getting your business listed, that’s literally just getting it so you exist in the POI database.

Trust me, there is nothing else at play. No data on your location history is ever sent to a server, and there is no paid promotion or a way for businesses to pay for placement or sponsorship within the built-in nav system. It’s a database consisting only of HERE data, and unless you choose to sort by the Yelp ratings, then there is not even a way for those ratings to affect your POI search results. Your nav system is NOT Google (which can be heavily skewed based on paid placement).

But it does frequently pull up businesses that seem nonsensical based on proximity or places you HAVE been. Often times due to the coordinates of the POIs in HERE’s database not being dead on.
