Frontier Ford in San Jose did an amazing job with the sale of my Rapid Red First Edition. We had been in contact for weeks with the idea that if a customer cancelled vehicle became available that I'd rush to the dealership in hopes of being first in line.

Once we got down to business I was happy that all of the incentives and rebates were honored including:
  • No ADM
  • X-Plan accepted
  • $100 discount for future self-drive upgrade
  • $1500 for California Clean Fuel Rebate
  • $2500 incentives for Ford Options
  • 2.25% APR for options (credit score 750)

I had pre-calculated my out the door monthly payments included sales tax and registration fees and the number the dealership came back with was only about $20 more than what I calculated.

I decided to add GAP coverage and a 4 year bumper to bumper warranty which bumped the price up somewhat. For reference for anyone interested in Ford Options, the deal was : 48 months with $7,000 down for a little more than ~$800 monthly.

THE CAR:

The driving experience is just short of incredible. Acceleration is smooth and instant. Coasting is fun knowing you can hit the gas at any point to charge forward aggressively and smoothly. I smiled ear to ear multiple times when coasting and then pushing the pedal about 25% and picking up speed quickly. It’s unlike any ICE vehicle in that it is quick and quiet. It's so quiet that it's hard to understand how fast you're going until you look at your speed.

There are electric motor sounds that sound intentional and soothing. I drove mainly in Engage and felt that it was the most like a regular car. Whisper seemed a little too relaxed and Unbridled… well…. it’s a little too aggressive in braking when letting off the accelerator. Maybe I’ll get used to it over time but I felt as though I was speeding up and immediately slowing down over and over again. I do love the graphics on both screens for unbridled, but I disliked the drive mode initially.

Braking seems and sounds a little aggressive, but only a little. The Kia Seltos I traded in had extremely aggressive brakes and I loathed them. The Mach E’s braking is mostly even with a little bit of extra pullback depending on speed. With only about 30 cumulative minutes of driving I imagine I will figure out the proper pressure for smooth stops.

I can hear an audible mechanical sound behind the driver screen. I've seen some others mention it. It is very audible when the car is running but not moving. Once the car is moving and/or the radio is on you can't hear it.

PAAK is relatively awful. I was able to get it to work for a grand total of 3 minutes. Since it has failed and now doesn't even show an activated phone as a key in the Ford Pass App. In all practicality I will probably never use it (unless a significant OTA makes it reliable). I fear that it will run my phone battery out since it wants to be on in the background constantly.

I need to go through and play with a lot of the settings. I was able to make a profile, but I realize that some of the seating settings need to be updated. Also the car honks loudly when I walk away and I'll need to fix that. I already pay for Sirius Satellite Radio so I'll need to figure out how to transfer it from my previous car to the Mach E.

ALSO as I was driving home I saw another Rapid Red Mach E zoom past me on 280 freeway. Very exciting that others are also taking delivery!

Here are a bunch of photos. I tried my best to white balance correctly to accurately display the shade of red of the car:

Thanks for taking such great pictures of my car. . . still waiting on my RR FE. Just one question, your pictures are the first I have seen where the interior looks more black than gray. I’m hoping it is as dark as your pictures show.

The interior is definitely "dark."

If the scale goes white=1, gray=5, black=10 then I'd say the color of the interior overall is about an 8.5. It's a really dark gray but definitely not black. Overall I think it's better than black. First Editions are darker than Premiums also because the pillars and ceiling are dark in the First Edition but the Premiums are light (even with dark interior selection)

My beauty finally arrived Friday... spent all day today polishing off all the hard water spots all over from being outside for the last month and putting a C-Quartz ceramic coating on... now the finish is perfect! Here‘s Daddy Mustang and Big Baby Mach E together in the corral...

Great colors - now I feel better about the MME in RR...was conflicted because of its maroon shades but these pictures make the RR look great. Enjoy the car.

That’s awesome! Glad we are all getting the proper incentives and pricing.

Also, I agree, the attention is really cool that the car generates. I’ve gotten so many compliments, and a guy today flat out yelled his approval while walking by in the grocery parking lot. I think I Earlier mentioned that a police officer pulled up next to me while I was parked and told me to roll down my window. He then glowed about how good the car looked and asked a bunch of questions. It was surreal.

The interior is awesome. I never liked a black interior but after I saw a demo, knew that's what I wanted. It looks good anyway, but with the FE red stitching, it's really good.

My last two cars had light tan/stone interiors and headliner. I tend to buy cars (instead of leasing) and keep them for a while. I found the light colors were *really* hard to keep clean. So the charcoal/black interior and headliner was a welcome change.

Just picked up my FE Rapid Red just in time for sunset. It was tough to get these pics in between people asking me about it!

I was feeling the same way on the color. I've had three red cars but they were all fire engine red. I even went to a Ford dealership to see the color on another car model. Once I saw my car, I was happy with it. It looks great on the mach E.

The car is finally back from the detailing shop. They put two layers of Ceramic Coat on it. There's a product for the painted body surfaces plus the black painted parts of the wheels, another product on the glass, and I also had them apply a protection to the carpets.

It takes a few weeks to fully "cure" but once done the car is easier to clean and doesn't need to be waxed.
It did get some attention... everyone wanted to see it.
Do you mind sharing what the coating and protection cost you? If not, I understand. I just want to get an idea of what I'm looking at when mine gets here. TIA

I know I'm not the original poster, but for more data points:

I am planning to have mine ceramic coated next week and I was quoted a Bronze, Silver, and Gold package price of between $600-$1400 depending on the type of coating used and how many layers. The base option is warrantied for 2 years and the top option warrantied for 10 years with a yearly inspection.

This is from a reputable and prominent company in my area.

I don't know the brand of coating. I took it to a detail shop and they did it.

But here are their rates: https://www.detroitmetrodetailing.com/ceramic-coatings

You can scroll that list ... the price is based on size of the car.

ALSO... there is a type of ceramic coating for glass (think of it like RainX ... except like a ceramic coat it lasts years and years) and I had them do that on the panoramic roof and windows. That was an extra $75.

If you've never done ceramic coat before... you're not supposed to wash the car or let water sit on the car for about 2 weeks after the coating is applied ... to allow it time to "cure". If water sits on the car they tell me it can re-absorb the water into the coating and results in a cloudy spot. Once it "cures" this will never happen. So the warning the shop gave me was: don't wash it until it has finished curing *and* if it gets wet ... immediately wipe it dry.
