I overloaded the rear cargo area with paverstones and the plastic piece that keeps the cargo cover elevated snapped off. Any suggestions on a fix? I don't think I can just replace the plastic piece because the ends broke off and are lodged in the side panel.

Aha!

Not the only one who did this, I’m relieved to hear?

You can just get your hand behind the inner panel sufficient to find the plastic plate in there which formed part of the bit you found broken off which sandwiched the fabric trim.

It has round bosses that you can pilot drill in their centres to provide the grip for screws that you can screw through holes you need to drill through the part you found in the frunky boot.

Then screw through the part you found in the boot through into the bosses of that inner plastic plate, paint the screw heads black and presto! All fixed ?

I did consider it necessary, once I did a dry run offering the parts up when drilled and prepared, to apply some good glue between the part broke off in boot and fabric inner trim for added strength.

Let me know how you get on.

I’ve heard of something called Rivnuts that seems like it could work. Somebody on here talked about it a while ago. I tried regular rivets and screws. Not a great job but it’s holding … for now. You can always just put the floor down on the lower position.

Riv-Nuts are meant for use in sheetmetal. They would place too much pressure on the plastic interior panel without providing a proper sheetmetal backer. At that point, the plastic piece could just be riveted onto the side panel using a sheetmetal backer. ??

I’d sell the car ASAP?. Seriously though

Another reminder to users that you should always put the load floor in the lower position when carrying heavy loads.
Stupid question here:
I asked at one of the dealerships about lowering the floor to a lower position, since I had read about it here previously. She knew nothing about it. How do you do it?

The first thing I did when we got our MME was move the floor down to the low position. I didn't want to risk any damage.

Not having a cargo hook in that side panel depression looks so weird now. ??
