A few weeks ago, I had a mishap and had some cooking oil spill behind my second row. Let me restate that, rancid cooking oil.
I did my best to clean in the general area, but I believe some of the oil must’ve worked its way down beneath my rear seats and I would like to remove them so I can do a better job cleaning out the awful smell. I took a quick glance this weekend, but couldn’t find any obvious bolts that I could start removing and I thought I would reach out to this awesome community to see if anyone has any insight that they could share?

Any help is appreciated.

The rear seats are attached at the rear but the front can be popped loose and the seat lifted up to get underneath. The front is just held in place by pressure fittings.

Complete removal or removing the foam requires unstringing the attachment of the upholstery. These are easy to undo but may require a professional to reinstall. Hopefully lifting the seat will be enough for you to clean out the oil.

In case you need to get the back off too to get underneath that area, there is a plastic piece between the seat and the C-pillar piece. Remove that, then pull up on the seat. You can then slide the seat around. There is a wire for the weight sensor - unsure how to unplug but should be easy to trace back if you needed to get them out.

So how did you pop the seat bottom up? I recently tried myself and I could not figure it out at all. I pulled and tugged at it and it would not release. Do you have to insert a tool at a specific spot and release something for it to allow you to lift it up?

It just lifts up. No tools required. You have to give it a hard tug up.

Ahh ok. Thanks Mark. . I was worried I'd break something if I went to much with tugging on it.

Nope. Tug away. You can see in Mark's photo a few posts above about where the metal U-shaped hooks are that snap into the white plastic recepticals that are in the body. That is the area you want to pull up. They are just snapped in.

Not sure what you mean by complete removal- you can get the whole lower cushion out just by unhooking it from these two rear hooks. To get it out of the car fully you’d have to unscrew the center seatbelt anchor too.
