I am limiting my use of WOT because of the fear of SSN on my GT. I drive 1 pedal all the time and I have been noticing the green Regen bar can move all the way to the left on hard regen. Of course this happens all the time. Driving 75mph and let off the pedal and you slow down to 55mph with the green regen bar all the way to the left for like 5s … so is that pushing a lot of Amps and current just like accelerating with WOT? I mean the size of the bars accelerating hard are about the same as the hard regen? Just wondering as maybe I should not 1 pedal? Any thoughts?

are you just never going to floor it or use regen? Just drive it, burn up your contactor and then get a new one lol.

Regen is so small in comparison to power draw, it’s a seriously minor factor regarding HVBJB damage. The only time it might come into play is after an extended high power draw followed by the hardest regenerative event. Even at that point the odds are that the high power event was what damaged the HVBJB. ?‍♂?

Not going to say regen is not an issue but @DecSecOps has a spreadsheet of failures and none occurred during regen. If I remember correctly regen maxed at 300amps and all failures occurred at or over 400 amps.

I hear you all. I am worried about the winter. Once I get through the coming winter I am going to WOT myself to a new HVBJB.

As one of the newest HVBJB members, I'd encourage you to drive it however you want and allow the part to fail while it's under warranty.

Personally, I don't think Wide Open Throttle events even have much to do with failure. Based on my analysis of August failures speed and sustained higher amperage is looking like it's more likely to cause failure than a bunch of acceleration events. I know members who purposely tried to fry the HVBJB by acceleration events and it never worked. They eventually had failure while passing a car on the freeway.

No failures in August were under regenerative braking that I have data for. I don't think regeneration has anything to do with it.

It’s (almost) impossible to drive without regen.

Only way to not use regen is to put in neutral every time you slow down.

Just drive the car.

Whether 1 pedal or just regular whisper, the car will use the same amount of regen if you slow from 75 to 55 in the same distance.

Sounds like the contactors can't handle sustained high temps, so when they cook for a while at sustained high draw they're susceptible to damage, leaking, and welding.

Maybe the cooling system and the thermal mass of the unit means it can handle heat spikes and cool in between.

How many seams in the contactor part are glued? Maybe the sustained heat melts the glue, or softens a plastic weld, and breaks the vacuum.

As someone who just inadvertently joined the HVBJB club two days ago. It’s hurts to know some of you are out there trying to make it happen.

As an aside, are there any reports of the replacement breaking?

Not that I've seen, yet...

To clarify, the new part, not the old part.

Yeah, I bet it's a scenario that crops up during long term overheat events where the heat sinks and contactors become heat soaked. Long Freeway trips definitely seem to be where I've heard of people having it happen, anecdotally.

Which is probably the worst time to have it happen, of course because that means you're probably on a road trip and far away from home...
