@Aeon did you test charging at a Tesla charger before going on the trip?

Sometimes people get tripped up because the procedure can be a bit different?

So this is an odd one. While I have had the Ford navigation send me to a Tesla charger that wasn't compatible I've never had the Tesla app send me to an incompatible charger.

What Tesla charger did you go to that didn't work?
What adapter were you using?
Looking at both the apps retrospectively, it must’ve been the FordPass app that sent me there, because the Tesla app doesn’t show the location that I went to as a compatible charger.

I have a Lectron NACS/CCS adapter, though I suppose with any adapter in this situation it wouldn’t have worked haha

Admittedly this was my first time attempting to use a Tesla supercharger or the Lectron NACS/CCS converter I have.

From my understanding, which is little, it’s as simple as plugging your car in with the converter and selecting your charging station in the Tesla app (assuming it’s a compatible charging station of course)?

That makes sense. If the charger isn’t compatible, no adapter will do the job.

I have had mixed results. Once I plugged it in and it did “plug and charge” which authorizes through the Ford network. And once I had to start it through the Tesla app where it asked of the charger number, and it billed it using the credit card I had connected to Tesla app.

Out of curiosity, which specific site are you referring to??
Live in Boston myself, often travel to (mid) Northern Maine to visit family fairly regularly...

Usually stop once at the Telsa SC sites in the Augusta/Waterville area heading NB, and stop once in in the greater Portland area southbound on the way back....

North of Bangor is a pretty much a chargning desert, unfortunately, until you get into Canada....

There is the Tesla SC site in Medway, ME, immediately off I-95....
Sadly it's only a V2 charger, open to Tesla only...
This is extremely unfortunate, as I feel this is a prime spot that could benefit from an upgrade to V3/V4 so everyone could use it, as it's one of the few charging spots available on I-95 north of Bangor....

I'm on the NH seacoast so this has been a very interesting thread. I rarely go further into Maine than York with the occasional drive to Portland. All trips well within Mach-E round trip range even under the worst conditions.

Might be like Erik (@MacherAWD)said that the lack of charging is directly the result of "nothing" up in that region. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for one of Rivian's Adventure Network charging locations.

I can see the commercial now: fly rods unloading from the roof rack, yellow lab hopping out of the back, close up of hand tied flies. 🤣

And then 9 months of the year it sits empty. We could use a network of small solar/battery L2 chargers in remote locations, but then who knows if it works when you show.

PlugShare is pretty old-school. I used to use it back when I bought my Bolt. It was started as a place to share home chargers and electrical outlets with other EV drivers. I recommend downloading Chargeway. It is more up-to-date than PlugShare and more tailored to your particular EV. As for Tesla Suoerchargers… it will only show you ones that are compatible.

Don’t forget that any electrical outlet is potentially a charger. When I road trip, I take my 16 amp 120V/240V EVSE (TurboCord Dual), an extension cord, and a handful of adapters. You may well have been able to charge at the AirBNB. Most houses have an exterior outlet on its own circuit. If not, most kitchen and bathroom outlets are on 20 amp circuits. Yeah, 120V is slow, but it works.

In a pinch, you can often find outlets on the exterior of commercial buildings as well. Technically speaking, there are more places to charge an EV than gas pumps.
