According to the dealer, that was the instructions they were given from Ford. They ordered a part for the roof that took a couple weeks to get. Some kind of foam insert? I don't have any other details. I haven't gotten all the paper work back of what exactly was done. We waited to do the work until they could obtain this part. I never saw the recall instructions the dealer was quoting.
Yes, there's a foam insert, but the roof does not get removed to install that. Here are the instructions:

Recall instructions have been posted here multiple times, and nothing in them says to remove the roof.

Have had mine in a week now, it would have been 2 days but when a tech was putting one of the plastic covers from between the driver's door and windshield back on it snapped and they had to source a new one which has taken quite some time. I was given an Elantra that has trouble shifting into 2nd gear and makes me miss my baby all the more.

Maybe I'm mistaken. These instructions for the windshield sound like what he told me they had done. So maybe the windshield was the only glass removed. I'll check the paperwork once they send it to me.

Yes, but dealers don't give an eff it seems. Ford needs to blast the dealers and tell them to not remove the pano roof. I'm working with Ford Engineers on an issue with my car and even let them know when I was at the dealer for the recall that the advisor said the pano roof has to come out to check for paint overspray, the engineers couldn't give a shizzle and just said to let the dealers handle it and if they have issues they can step in... lol. I called a few other California dealers and they all said the same thing. I told them about the instructions and they still didn't budge. They all had different excuses - this is how we were told to do it from Ford (uh, directions...?), our glass guy is a pro, if he says it comes out, it comes out, etc. They did it perfectly, so it didn't bother me. But if they broke it or damaged something from the removal, I'd probably be peed off.

The only dealership that will even talk to me is the one I bought the car from. It shouldn't matter where I bought the car.
The dealership that I bought it from finally said that they have glass company willing to do the work. But they are only scheduling one a week. Not only that but they don't have the gasket.
I keep getting letters and notices saying this is a safety recall but I can't seem to get the repairs done.
Perhaps I'm being a pessimist, if something does go wrong and I don't get the car in for the recall
My insurance company will say its my fault for not addressing the recall
Ford will say that I didn't get it fixed and thus my warranty is void
I purchased the car with Ford Options - I imagine that if the work isn't done they will make an issue out of this

I have attempted to contact Ford Motor Company but just get in a phone loop that basically tells me to call my dealership - Ridiculous

No other dealers will even talk to you? Are you just calling their service department, schedule an appointment, say it is for the recall and ask if they can verify with an advisor they know how to do the work. I've NEVER had a dealer ever ask where I bought a car from, unless a request is only an "our owners" perk, like getting my car picked up from my house, etc.

They will talk to me - sorry for choice of words.
The dealership around the corner from me (not the dealership I bought the car from) said they are only doing software updates, recalls, warranty work etc from customers that bought cars from them.
The dealership I bought it from basically told me the same thing. I called 3 other local Ford dealerships and they said they are only working on recalls for customers that purchased cars from them.
I am in Massachusetts - not sure if it is this way in other parts of the country.

Got mine back today after a week. Still has the blue windshield tape on it and the top of the driver's side a pillar isn't snug anymore. I also didn't see any foam piece installed. They also left me 2 razor blade cartridges in my cup holder (free gift!), suction cup marks on the inside of the windshield, and dirt/dust from removing the windshield. I'll have to drive it some more to see if I notice anything different but at least I have all the software updates. Since they already had it for a week I will note the a pillar misalignment and see if I find anything else and then take it back some other time.

Mine has been in the body shop one week today. There were two other Mach Es there at the time.
Both for accidents and glass repairs. Manager told me that they were breaking about half of the
windshields and that windshields were in town, but being shared between dealerships. Got the
messages ( calls for help? ) from the car, probably when 12 volt was disconnected. Called today to
inquire about status. Was told that they had broken MY windshield and that it would be another
couple days. Also getting the 12 Volt messages in the FordPass app. Manager also said that the
only cars that they were aware of that NEEDED the repair were the white ones. Mine is Carbonized
Gray. I will know if my windshield was in fact broken when it is returned. I will be PISSED if it was
just an excuse. So far, not happy with time for various dealership visits, but, the end result has
been professional.

I did follow up with my dealer. As you pointed out they did not take off the roof, just the windshield.

I had the recall done this week. I dropped off the car on Monday morning, and it was ready at 3pm on Wednesday. The glass seems fine, but I noticed a couple small imperfections from dropping the headliner. The gasket around the driver's door is damaged in a couple of places and there's a small hole in the headliner just below the driver's grab handle. Not earth-shattering, but damage that wasn't there before. The dealer is ordering a new gasket and headliner.

Update. The headliner arrived last week, so I dropped off the car on Monday to get it replaced (the dealer's in-house body shop has been doing all the work). I got a call Monday afternoon saying that the washer fluid tube running to the back windshield was glued to the headliner, so was damaged and also needed to be replaced. They ordered a new washer tube, which came in yesterday, and had everything put back together for me this morning. The door gasket is on backorder, so not sure when that will arrive, but I'm not too concerned about it in the meantime since it's just cosmetic. That's an easy swap, so I won't have to leave the car with them when it arrives.

So for the initial glass recall, I dropped off the car on a Monday morning and it was done on Wednesday afternoon. Then it went back on a Monday to have the damaged headliner replaced and they had it until Friday. Of course, I would prefer that it never happened, but all in all I'm fine with the result. They gave me a rental for the entire time.

I am a little angry with Ford about this whole process. My dealer doesn’t have a body shop so they said I will need to,take it to a dealer 120 miles away. I called the dealer and asked for a date to bring it in and they said “ we are not scheduling the recall yet” since it is over two mountain passes to get there I am glad to wait but Ford should have made these no-body shop dealers Do a better local solution for their customers.
