Sorry to see that. It’s interesting to me that so many people have had better results with real leather. My experience is that real leather cracks and tears in a few years while synthetic leather can stay in great condition for much longer. Leather BMW seats seemed to go to crap pretty quickly while those in my Subaru held up perfectly for 5+ years despite some fair abuse. I was optimistic of the durability of the Mach E seats but your situation is a real bummer.
I guess it’s just a reminder that there are various levels of quality both in real and fake leather.

The biggest difference I notice is in thickness.

The fake stuff that flakes off and cracks? Thinner than paper. Real leather that holds up? Nice and thick.

Case and point? Pics of my 2 year old vinyl Ashley furniture chair and my 20 year old “real leather” rooms to go.

The older leather one has never been conditioned and has been through multiple dogs and kids.

Usually stuff that's not covered b2b in the first 12mo is covered under customer satisfaction programs. That its done that so soon is not good.

My Nissan quest leather steering wheel delaminated and was replaced. Both my co workers had the same on their teslas mY and a m3

Aftermarket leather is always an option - I used Katzkin years ago to replace the vinyl seats in my Outlook with leather and it held up perfectly well over 10+ years. They can even add embroidery if you want a red one-off look.

My MME has yet to arrive but my biggest disappointment is the lack of leather - yes it weighs more, so less range, but I'll happily trade that off for durability. I'll be looking into it shortly.

Has anyone had their seat material start to break up? Just noticed yesterday that mine is starting to crack around the ventilations. Hopefully it won't be an issue under warranty.
oh you mean this? Noticed mine around 25k. Call the dealer. They are going to replace mine. It’s in I just need to schedule it. They will bring in an outside upholstery person to do the actual work. Mine they said is covered under warranty. I have 33k on my 2021 Extended Range AWD. I didn’t notice it until I leaned intocar to grab something from center console and leaned on seat. I recommend everyone monitor theirs.

Honestly it probably won’t be covered by warranty.

My hate for vinyl was just reinforced the last couple years.

Bought an Ashley Furniture set that “covers everything with the 5 year warranty” according to the salesperson.

I read the fine print and it doesn’t cover “cracking or peeling.”

And guess what my 3 year old couches are doing…….
It will be covered under manufacturer's warranty. Ashley is crap furniture. They called it bonded leather. It's a vinyl product that is sprayed on a fabric backing. Once it stretches, it cracks. Ashley does not sell that anymore. The salesperson sold you the wrong furniture warranty.

Seems they do sell it still. In fact here are 22 different sets of faux leather. Some are faux suede, some look to be the bonded leather garbage. Again, mine is only 3 years old:

Not having that issue, but it’s just a reminder why I hate fake leather.

All vinyl eventually cracks. Leather? Not so much.

I wish they would offer real leather seats. “Vegan leather” in electric cars is silly. Especially if you’re trying to sell them to everyone. The rest of the car isn’t “vegan” anyways. In fact, no car is vegan.
Vegans should be put up against a wall and pelted with cheeseburgers.

No offense to any vegans on this forum, owning a MME obviously means you are one of the good ones. :)

faux leather is not bonded leather. Different manufacturing process. The faux suede is polyester.

This is why I hate perforation. I have no idea why they perforate when there’s no ventilated seats??? The perforation accelerates the cracking.
Because without it they would be extremely hot in the summer. Fake leather doesn’t breathe at all. At least with the holes you get some air movement.

I would agree. We own a Select which does not have the perforated leather and it gets uncomfortable. One feature that this car needs is ventilated seats. I honestly would prefer to have fabric seats over the vinyl that is in mine.

What I don't like is that fake leather is plastic. Since when is plastic vegan? Doesn't plastic come from algae deposits from 65M years ago? Isn't that technically animal derived (is algae an animal?).

Regardless, I think I'd be more concerned with plastic pollution and out gassing, then the impact of using the waste product from meat consumption. (no one is eating meat because I need leather seats. They are using the leather because I'm eating meat).

I think real vegan seating covers would be cloth (i.e. plant-based fibers like cotton, hemp-based fibers, etc). But not plastic-based cloth. The problem is I don't know how durable (or comfortable) this would be.
