Customers bought a car that Ford promised would include a free adapter (and therefore dramatically increase the availability of charge stations) and regular updates to the software.
Good luck finding documentation of a date you were promised to get that adapter by.

This situation is a cluster after the firing of the supercharger team. You should probably look elsewhere for an adapter if you need or want one. Just be glad you’re not an owner of a vehicle from another manufacturer that was given access but hasn’t been onboarded.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those other automakers never get onboarded.

Does anyone know a class action lawyer? Or are you one? There must be a case against Ford for unreasonable delays in keeping every major promise they made to us buyers. From the upgrade to Blue Cruise 1.3 to the free NACS adapter, Ford has failed to deliver, often until our leases or subscriptions expired. If A2Z can deliver in 2 or 3 weeks, and any high school techy could push out an upgrade, there is no valid reason for Ford's breaches. After all it's not like Ford sold so many EV's that it's unable to cope after a century of producing millions of vehicles.
This is something called “revenue recognition”. A company can recognize the revenue they receive for delivering the goods to the customer. They cannot recognize revenue for something that doesn’t exist.

When you buy a product … you buy it for the way it works on the day you buy it … period.

Speculation about what may become of the product in the future is in the realm of prognosticators, soothsayers, and oracles. It is generally just a “best estimate” or “best effort”.

When you bought the car, Ford said it would be possible to deliver over-the-air updates … and it turns out it IS possible. Ford did not promise specific OTA updates nor did they promise a specific date.

I bought a 2021 Job-1 ... they did promise that BlueCruise would be delivered “later” … and it was (albeit later than even they expected and they graciously made nice by offering nearly 1.5 years of a paid-feature available to owners of ‘21 Job-1 cars at no cost to the owners.)

I don’t think that any of us could have predicted that Ford would be switching from CCS1 to NACS … much less that they would give away CCS1 to NACS adapters to those who purchased CCS1 cars — and at no cost to the owners.

Ford had no control over Elon Musk’s decision to lay off the entirety of the charging team — including the group responsible for the logistics of producing and supplying the adapters.

Ford has to rely on Tesla for the adapters. Tesla may, in turn, be relying upon another supplier (no idea if they do and who that might be).

But in legal terms… you had ZERO expectation that you would be offered a free NACS adapter when you bought the car. And as you apparently still don’t have the NACS adapter you did NOT expect to receive when you put your money down … it would be a bit of a stretch to suggest that you have somehow been harmed by this turn of events. A judge would more than likely tell you to pound sand.

Ford has already made it possible for your car to be recognized by Tesla SuperChargers. They have probably already pushed the software update to your car to add the trust certificates to enable Plug & Charge capability. This means that the only thing preventing you from using a Tesla SuperCharger is the adapter … which they have already generously offered to deliver for free (most of us were betting there would be some cost for it.)

I had a 2500 mile road-trip in April. I realized there was almost no possibility that I would have the free adapter, so I paid A2Z and bought their adapter and hoped it would arrive on time. As the date neared and the A2Z adapter had not shipped, I contacted them and mentioned my upcoming date and asked if they thought they would be able to ship the adapter on time. They graciously offered to change my shipping to a 1-day expedited delivery for a very reasonable cost and I took them up on it. They are a solid vendor and if you have a need for the adapter, I suggest you work with them … they really are very accommodating. If you would rather save the money and wait it out until Ford can manage to get their hands on some inventory … then wait it out. The decision is yours.

And what of those customers who purchased a Mach-E _after_ Ford made the announcement about adapters (and before that offer expired.)

While Ford was never specific about WHEN those customers would recieve an NACS adapter (and even was clear that initial supply was constrained), those customers made the purchase with the understanding that they WOULD be shipped an adapter for no additional charge.

The easier thing to do is complain to Jim Farley than finding a lawyer to sue him. He needs to email Elon Musk again. Remember the Second Batch was released after Farley emailed to Musk about the delay. Maybe it will work again.
Or, at least give us a valid explanation about why things have failed. Who is supposed to be actually making these adapters? Why are they not delivering? Did their factory burn, was flooded or something else? Did ICE round up their workers? Are the workers on strike? Did the owners take the money and run for Rio?
My order is 18,8xx and was promised for July, 2024.
Malarkey. Farley said they got 10,000 and were waiting on the rest. Tesla is making the adapters.

Do you have reason to think anything has changed? They’ve extended the period to reserve a free adapter through the end of August (last I checked).

My guess is …they’ll just ship the car with the adapter once the backlog is handled (at least until they start shipping cars with the native NACS connector.)

At this rate, by the time they catch up enough to include an adapter with the car at purchase, the car will probably have been changed over to NACS anyway.

Half joking.... I already have an A2Z adapter, but this whole thing is just bizarre.

I don't know that I'd even call it "bizarre", just a little disappointing.

Nobody in Canada has received theirs at all, as we are waiting on Ford Canada to receive a batch of adapters from Tesla. I'm planning a trip in early September and I asked Ford if there was a chance I'd have mine in time and they got back to me to let me know that while I'll be in the first batch of Canadian orders fulfilled, they couldn't give an ETA.

I've ordered the A2Z for my trip. There are enough Mach-E owners here in the Yukon that I'm sure I'll be able to sell it when the Tesla adapter arrives.

actually, Ford media announced in May of last year their EV’s would have Tesla adapters. As far as ‘contract’ and ‘stipulates’, the Mach-e brochure boasts OTA updates.
And most of us bought before that. When you actually ordered your adapter, in all the stuff that you agreed to, was there a specific time frame given? Or did it simply say, "when available?"

For the OTA updates, I have gotten several. So they are happening. Where did it say when the updates for specific features would specifically be released?

you can't just sue because you are unhappy

I was June, then July. Have a roadtrip coming up next weekend to Chicago so decided to order a lectron. Was hoping to have the ford one before the trip but no luck, it’s free so I can’t complain. I was kind of surprised Best Buy sells the Lectron adapter but glad they do as I can get it Tuesday. Starting to have major issues finding available chargers in my city so this will help too.

And they will be. Those adapters will come in order as supplies are received. People weren’t given time guarantees for the adapters.

Much ado about nothing. It’s not like you can’t charge the car elsewhere.

What is the order # of the latest Tesla adapter received? My order number is 8182.
The highest one I’ve seen on the forum is 6491. This excludes those from the first batch that were sent out of order. Mine is 6984. Missed it by that much.

You've got to be kidding me. My order is 90006491, or 6491. There's no way mine was the last one in the batch. Probably just the highest number to post! If I'd known, I'd have gone out and bought a lottery ticket! ;)
