Wrong. I use it (rarely). It has been handy on the occasions I did use them.
I’m pretty annoyed that, instead of improving it (like other manufacturers we won’t name in polite company), Ford just said “this is too hard” and gave up. I hope the “get rid of self-park” decision-maker at least got a decent bonus ?
Ford discontinued it because "Very, very few people are using it...".

That is a direct quote. Nothing about it being too hard. MONEY.

"Galhotra said this move will save Ford about $60 per vehicle and around $10 million per year."

"The bigger figure is $2 billion. That's how much the company expects to save by nixing features such as automated self-parking, as there are myriad operating costs behind the scenes for things such as freight, manufacturing, and materials. "

That is all a bit disingenuous. They use that “savings” excuse (and some variant of “it’s a feature we found our customers weren’t using”) all the time. The reality is that they didn’t want to build those costs into the price of the vehicle. Given how much hate Active Park Assist receives, let’s look at some less controversial examples of decontenting. The front camera washer. It came on with the windshield washers, so the claim can’t be made that “very few customers were using it”. A customer-focused response would be to develop and add a rear camera washer to go along with it, then bundle the washers into a package (maybe a winter pack that would include the washers, heated seats, quick-clear windscreen). Another example is the removal of the adjustable head restraints in the premium for MY24. That is just silly. One of the things that first attracted me to the Mustang Mach -E was it’s premium look and touches. If Ford wants to build an electric fiesta, then just slap a 40kwh battery from one of their hybrids into a fiesta, along with a cheap little motor and call it a day. Stop trying to make the Mustang Mach-E into some stupid econo-box.

Which was stupid. Of course you don't use it often. But when you do need to parallel park on a busy unfamiliar street, suddenly it can be the difference between an easy automated park or scratching up your and another person's car.

Now I have a button on the center console that literally does nothing.

I never quite understood that Hyundai/Kia system. What happens if you’re just standing behind the car talking to someone? The liftgate just opens into you? And what if you’re standing by the garage door with your car inside? Could the liftgate open into the garage door?
Yes but you have 3 full seconds and it beeps a few times before it opens.

The problem with the kick sensor on the Mach-E was how unreliable it was. Hyundai/Kia safety and convenience systems were a notch above Fords. The rear cross traffic alerts worked vastly better. You heard an audible alarm if you attempted to turn while something was in your blindspot. Lane centering didn't ping pong..

There are several other Ford & Lincoln models that still ship with Park Assist so don't see why they can't offer the retro kit especially on 2022s that have the prep kit.

I have a '21 Job 1. I use the kick to open trunk exclusively and it has been quite reliable - sometimes it takes the car a little while to wake up in the morning, same applies to the door. My wife has a little more trouble getting it to work, but she manages. Kick to close is much less reliable, I use it rarely when my hands are full and have to try a few times. I had it on my last car as well (Audi A4) and also used it exclusively. My wife's Honda CRV doesn't have it and I have been known to stand behind it and kick ...

I used automatic parking - twice in 3 years. Not sure I would miss it. I parallel park maybe once every few weeks to a month. I never used the back-in parking. Tesla people seem to use it a lot.

I think one of the problems with the kick to open was door damage. There used to be posts about the rear hatch mysteriously opening and getting damaged. I think the range of PAAK combined with an animal in the car was the culprit.

I understand there is no official kit to retrofit PA on the 22s. Is there a documented unofficial way? It seems like with the right modules and ForScan it could be done, especially if Ford originally intended for it to be possible.

The Kick to Open hardware is on the 2022s, so FORScan will activate it. Self-Parking, I am not sure on. ?‍♂?

I wired mine up to open and close the rear hatch, thanks to members here for the idea.
Can you point me to the instructions?
I can repurpose my hazard button design to dog-prove the button.
Thanks.

Yes, it does. While I kept it on, because it was convenient when I had a handful of groceries or other items. This was frustrating. It should have been implemented differently.
