Hi All,
Apologies if this has been asked... I did a google search before but can't find any great links.

I'm looking into doing the tire rotations myself... I've seen youtube videos about the proper jacking spots. If I understand correctly, if I jack a corner enough, the rest of the car will raise high enough for me to insert a jackstand

Assuming this is the case, could the flex of the car cause any issues with the glass roof?

I don't cross.... I just do front to back, back to front on same side....

This keeps tires spinning same direction, which can make a difference with some tread patterns.

Nope!

Not true. I've rotated many tires in this manner without having all four off the ground at once. If you do it right, you never need more than 2 at a time off the ground.
Correct?

Though this method of rotation is only good for symmetric or asymmetric tyres, unidirectional tyres can only be swapped with other on same side of car.

You have to be careful following the rotation diagram shown in #4. Some tire models are directional which would require a remounting to cross. If DIY it’s probably front-to-back, back-to-front.

Here's some evidence for you. I replaced my tires on a GT Performance Edition (arguably much higher wear than a 1st Edition) at 27,488 and they still had a bit of tread left. I replaced them because I needed to go in the snow and summer tires weren't gonna cut it. I rotated the tires 2x in 30k and didn't balance them either time. The dealership did both rotations.

Let's not talk about why the dealership charged more for the same service the first time :/
They let you put all seasons on a GT-PE? How’s the traction compared to the stock P-Zeros? I’m surprised to hear you got 27k out of them.

Let me? I didn't have this done by the dealer, I took it to Les Schwab Tire.

I think the CC2's are amazing tires. I feel they handle much better.

First question, do you know how to safely jack up a car and have the proper equipment?

I’ve heard of tire shops not putting on tires with less than the ā€˜Y’ speed rating on the GT-PE…even when the car is limited to way below that.

It’s hard to imagine a tire that handles better than the P Zero…just hoping I get some decent life out of them.

Getting tires rebalanced every 5k is totally unnecessary IMO. The reality is you're far more likely to get something dorked up by the teenager making $15/hr at the tire shop than any perceived benefit in wear.

For liability purposes they only go up or down one speed rating from OEM recommendation.

If you got your tires from Costco you would save at least $100 per tire.

If that were the rule then it seems to be broken here. OEM tires on the GT-PE are Y-rated. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 in 245/45R20 is V-rated, which would be two steps down.

I agree. Rebalance your tires if/when you feel vibration, or maybe check at half tread life when significant material has been removed. Rebalancing every rotation creates an opportunity for a problem you didn’t have.

It’s what we were taught at our independent tire dealer. I guess it’s only important for vehicles limited to under 118 mph. The Y rating is 186 mph which the GT-pe can’t do. The v tire is more then enough at 149 mph.

Tire Rack lists the Michelin cc2 v as an acceptable tire. In brief, you are correct, I’m wrong.

Glad to hear there’s a chance of the tire dealers having more latitude to be reasonable than the cases we’ve heard of (requiring OEM spec). I agree V is plenty conservative for a speed-limited EV.
